Grass - Video

Post by Garack »

Hi!

When on extrem low videosettings...Do you see grass?

I play on very high with 8800 GTS and i like it.

But it will be not fair when grass is off in very low mode.

Perhaps the modding Team can force grass?

I think you are talking about the draw distance, where the grass disappears at a certain distance, leaving the sniper hiding in tall grass visible as a figure on open ground.
I think they have worked on draw distances but there is a lot of variation in people's systems.
I have everything on low to reduce lag.
And as the windshield melts
My tears evaporate
Leaving only charcoal to defend.
Finally I understand the feelings of the few.

BUT, it draws at a shorter distance.

Low will probably draw at around 10M
High will probably draw at around 30-40M

This has always been issue in BF2.
It appears you have two groups, one that like the maps to look good as possible and will happily have reduced FPS to have a great looking graphics. That’s me, setting are as high as possible.
And a 2nd, more competitive group, that will do anything to improve FPS by reducing their settings.

This does mean you have effectively different people have very different experiences on the same map.

Personally this does not bother me at all. I really dont care if i have a disadvantage with slower FPS and far more clutter for enemy to hid behind.

Man my game just looks sexy, if people want to get an advantage by having horrendous graphics fair play to them. You gotta do what your rig demands.

It is not a level playing field.... but neither is life.

MadTommy, would you prefer i turn my graphics up to full and make the game unplayable for me?, "if people want to get an advantage by having horrendous graphics fair play to them", i probably have the same problem as most people as the settings i have my game set at are due to the limitations of my graphics card, so to imply that everyone who has their settings on low must be a score whore who wants to "pwn um n00b0x3s" is a bit shitty to say the least,

People dont want longer view distances because it will lag them and there not willing to turn down there video settings. I bet those are the same people who play ArmA and turn down there settings to get better FPS :P

I want longer view distances, but im outta money for the year, so no upgrades til 2008. I just had to blow £150 on a monitor because mine failed ... argh ... money! How I miss you.

My monitor means I now have to run a 1440x900 to get a crystal clear display, which means everything on medium except geometry (thats worth having on high), which makes me sad. I miss playing everything on high in 1024x768.

WTF are you on about? i was not judging anydody, people have different wants. Are you saying you dont run on low settings to get better FPS? as that is all i'm saying.

Do you feel dirty? do you want to tell us something?

Chippy or what?

Edit; i was not try to imply low settings = point whore

low settings = FPS whore ( and there is nothing wrong with that)

Please read my words... i did not imply anything about low or high settings.

I talked about having them as high as possible, if low is as high as your rig can go, then that is your highest setting you can play on. There are people who will have their settings as high as they can and others who will do everything to improve FPS. No judgementment, just an obervation that people set up thier rigs differently and therefore the playing field is not always level.

I did not mean to get anybody's back up.

edit.. i did not word my post very cleverly. Being competative and getting a small advantage though increasing FPS is a totally Ok thing in my books. Sorry i did not mean to imply this was wrong or anything else. Ok?

Oh .. Hmm ... Gras on some PR Maps is VERY important for Gameplay. You see nothing in high gras/plants (sorry german-english). When draw-distance will be reduced then the enemy see me in 15 meters when i am blind :(

Any way to solve this problem? Perhaps set a fixed render distance for all users. This must be a compromise of FPS and eyecandy. Personally i prefer eye candy :) up to 100 meters render distance and no(!) fog. This must be the greatest .. Only a little dream, cause then i can play alone with a hand full of high-end-freaks :)

i play my game pretty much on all low settings, hardly any shadows and what not, and grass only render's like.. 15m infront of me, so good game trying to hide in grass 70m away, cause.. you're pretty visible.

I bumped my computer graphics up to medium for a game.

For me its a matter of either A: Being effective, shooting and not skipping around the map.

Or B: Going up on higher graphics, watching a slideshow as I move left, one second later fire my gun, one second later, Looking at the sky wondering why the hell I am dead and the guy is on my body throwing his private bits in my face.

So my draw distance is bad but I never really considered it a help with the game. The only true help it might get is I'm able to spot out people for those that are actually good enough at the game to hit people with gunfire.

If the draw distance was set at a limit it would (hopefully.) be on the lower end because of its on the high end? Ya I won't beable to play at all. No offense to you people that love graphics and the like. (Man I still play TEXT GAMES.) But it would ruin the game for people who have no upgrades till there next couple of paychecks. Ya I just had my car blow up so instead of building my new rig... Ya I am fixing my old piece of ****.

After playing on high settings for a good half a year and then being force down to low and a few medium, means i have seen both sides. HOwever, i have found that it is the resolution that is the key factor in how much i enjoy the game, while low textures act mearly as a mild distraction.

Running the game on 1280 by **you know*** or atleast 1020 by **you know** compared to the bottom rezz enables you to ID objects and other players much easier, and that is really what counts in PR or any FPS for that matter, but particularly so when enaging at 100m +.

The same applies for Jungles and grass packed levels, where low texture and lighting affect your ability to fight little or almost nothing, while higher resoultions can be critical for spoting the enemy crawling through the bush or kneeling on a grassy mound 30m away.

:( tbh I didn't even realise settings reduced undergrowth draw distance. THAT'S why egg kept bashing me about keeping it for decorative purposes only! Dr Rank = noob :(
