Future of PR?

Post by hoc_xfirestormx »

ok, so as many of us know, the bf2 engine is, well, its ****. the question i have is: with so many new multiplayer games coming out to challenge the battlefield series (et:qw, arma, etc), what engine would you like to see PR go to?

and by UTIII that can mean frontlines: fuel of war too since its the same engine.

and wow... i definitely didnt vote for none... it should be 1 vote for crysis. dunno whats up with that.

for now BF2 untill we find something that really suits out needs, nothing ive seen yet that would really say that offers everything PR wants.

oh yeah, im just speculating. these arent even out yet for the most part, so this is just kind of a opinion thing for the community.

I go with Rhino. ;)
Assuming the devs even want to continue to mod Project Reality on another engine there is currently no other game out there that we know will have good support for mods.

Though historically the Unreal games have all had excellent mod support and the powerful Uscript (I think) language is another factor that might be worth looking into.

Crysis, does anyone know whether it will have better mod support than BF2?

I'd vote "none yet" if that had been an option. :p

Crysis looks all good, but its mainly a SP game with MP slapped on as an after thought. Only supports 32 players tops I think, and they have disabled many features that made crysis really shine in SP like there dynamic distrucitble buildings etc to cut down on MP lag.

as far as mod support goes, when the question went up in a interview I think there reply was something like "we are on the same level as EA when it comes to mod support".....

ooooo... thats not a good sign. 32 men is nothing. thats pretty lame. and the support comment makes me really nervous.

Then you'd lose all vehicle aspects of the game and The maps would be insanely hard, not to mention long, to move around in.

Yeah I'm not buying Chrysis for the multiplayer. It's nothing more than a run and gun (like every multiplayer).

I voted UE 3. Probably the most mod friendly engine out there, if you cant get it directly from the game you are modding there is always a way to hack in what you want. Not to mention it has damn good net code for multiplay.

Thing is we've put a lot of time into the BF2 engine, and made a lot of progress, and theres still a lot to come, so I'm not extremely keen to switch gears just yet. :)

The BF2 engine is by far the best engine out there for PR at the moment anyway. I cannot think of anything that would even come close.

CryEngine2 looks nice and all, but imo, nothing has and will beat the flexibility of the Unreal Engine.

if one can believe crytechs comments on mod support, it should be vast in the future with source code access and support by crytech devs. but we'll see. if this information is right and there are servers ready to handle the load, one could try to crank up the MP capabilities of crysis to 128 or so players. but i don't know why they restricted MP to 32 players in the first place, maybe due to limitations of current client hardware?

Why is ArmA not an option? I've heard that's got great potential.

counter strike with desert?

DirtyHarry, correct, it has potential, but BI have failed to release mod tools for it, so at the moment its about a quarter of the way finished

Yeah but by the time PR would even be considered changing engine I'm sure things will be fine in that department.
