Spotting - internal to squads only.

Post by Seirrah »

Excuse the cryptic subject line, I hope I can explain further.

My suggestion is that spotted enemies should onlybe seen by members within your squad.

I would imagine that in real-life communciations are just within your squad, and that it's the squad leaders that would pass on other information. While my suggestion might be more realistic, it's not the reason I suggest the change.

Project Reality is always trying to promote teamwork, mainly by making squads work as a team. Some squads however are just full of individual players who go off on random missions around the map.
Now consider only allowing a squad member to see enemies spotted by members of his own squad. The person that runs away from the rest of their squad is at a big disadvantage, as they have lost all information about where enemies are in their location.

Therefore by limiting spotting "intelligence" to within your own squad you are effectively forcing squads to work as a team....or at least encouraging them to stay fairly close.

You could say that some information is necessary for the whole of the team. Maybe you can allow squad leaders the ability to see spotted items from all the squads. Important information, like the location of rally points, can be relayed to the squad that he is commanding.

What about people who aren't in Squads? Well don't allow them any information.

While there could be problems that I've not though about, I do think that this would promote teamwork, by 'punishing' working alone.

Sound Okay... But I rather see that the spotted dot on the map should be "still"/"not moving when the enemy moves".

Bad idea. You often operate in the same area as other squads - the maps are too small, and there are too few flags for it to be otherwise. You already can't say anything to a man standing right in front of you, and spotting is one of the few ways that you can instantly communicate with others on your team. Going through squad leaders is way too slow in most cases for just about anything. This isn't promoting teamwork - this is isolating players from one another.

Sounds like a brilliant idea, 5 stars by me, though the moving "super-detecting" spot mechanism is a vBF2 thing that hopefully can be altered. ( The good old "If it could of been done easily it would of been done already" comes into play )

Not going to hijack the thread.. but on a note of communication, in-game all we have are our como rose/typing to communicate to other "blue guys" on our team, though we can't change VOIP ( Heard it a million times ) for squad to squad communication...

So it kind of fits into the engine, I like it... Question is, is it worth the time and effort and is it PR "Realistic"

In real life you have the means to communicate with other squads. That and it's just not a good idea.

think given SL s cant talk to each other the spot is a fair compromise

I'm not suggesting the change out of realism, I'm suggesting it for the gameplay changes it would make.

Maybe at the moment squads work in-amongst each other in a bit of a mess, but maybe that's because they can do it and get away with it.

Ok, so you want spot a "boat" (enemy RP/spawn car) and want the A10/Cobra in the other squad to destroy it. How are they gonna do that, if they can't see the "boat marker"?

Well, I know, thats what commanders are for, but they aren't always around...
And most of the stuff is done by a squad communicating to another one, its not like, if there's no commander, the whole team is useless, disinformated and doesnt have a clue, what to do...

I'm positive that Project Reality did once have a non moving spotted icon - I wonder why it was changed back

Then allow the 'boat' (or hopefully a new 'rally point spotted') to be seen by all squads and squad members.

edit: Another solution is that 'auto-spotted' items are just seen within the sqaud, whereas 'manaully spotted' items are seen by all.

Or maybe it's because they have bad squad leaders. I don't tolerate stupidity, or people that run off when I lead. If I see someone not doing the right thing, I ask them to step in line. If they don't, I boot them.

Removing a communication method between squads, will NOT raise teamwork within your squad. It will simply break down teamwork amongst the squads.

Current System : Enemy Spotted x 5 enemies = 5 enemy spotted.

Proposed System : 5 Squads (Enemy Spotted x 5) = 25 enemy spotted.

Auto Spot is when you just spot and it automatically defines what it is.

If there is no enemy it will show up as a question mark.

I dont like this idea because theres only 6 per squad and restrictions within squads should be avoided.
