just wondering that if a heli gets below a certain health level, could have it go out of control and crsh insted of catch fire and arch crash kind of thing :p

This would be cool. Helo's dont just explode and instantly kill everything in it. Its the stupidest thing in PR right now.. (devs, im not saying that this is your work, I know you didnt get around to that yet)

Imagine. 1 SA-7 (heat seeking) finds a blackhawks engine. It flys into the engine and disables it. Well blackhawks have two engines but lets say both are F'ed from the blast or shrapnel. Now in PR you and your entire crew would instantly die because the engine was blow on the BH lol.. needs to be changed.

Hopefully the Devs are cooking up something to fix that right now, im sure they are.

I agree, they should never explode in midair, but lose all power and crash to the ground, with a small chance for each occupant's survival.

A mod called Dawn Patrol did this with planes, after the plane you was shooting took enough damage the pilot would die and the plane would catch fire and fall to earth.

Well, hello, THIS is already in the mod....

But most of the time Blackhawks get shot down fast, so they explode...think, if you hit them in the tail with RPG or SA-7, then they go BHD nuts :p

Havent seen it on the Cobra though...it always turns to insta-charcoal, lol

Is it possible to give the choppers quite a bit of HP but start the "Spin out of control" early enough on the HP list? Missle Damage would probably have to be upped for realistic explosion/damage.

Example being a chopper sustains a decent/large amount of damage (say, same amount of damage it currently does) and loses power to the engines/rotors. Is it possible to cause it to spin and hit the ground, where it then catches on fire but does not explode?
The higher HP count would allow it to be shot at a bit more by small arms fire whilst it spins out of control before hitting the earth, as well as allow it to survive the crash without insta-killing everyone. An additional RPG or two could cause the fire to start mid-air and cause the chopper to explode when it hits the ground.
In addition, Anti-Air missles would probably have to be tweaked so that they cause enough damage to either destroy of disable the chopper with a single hit.

Short Review Points:
-Increase Chopper HP; delay destruction w/ extra HP
example:
[-healthy-][dmg][outofcontrol][-------+fire------][death]
-Increase Rocket and missle damage to choppers

yesterday on basrah i was hit in a cobra.

the warning beep sounded and i lost my engines. there was no shaking or blurring but a slow descent to the ground. kinda like a shallow dive. i expected to make a hard landing and repair the chopper but it blew up on landing. maybe due to the low hp left

so in guess what you are describing is implemented already but it rarely happens

Might be kinda like what he said but I suggested b4 they after the chopper takes a certain amount of dmg it loses all control and goes into a spin, or shallow dive, and it's HP is boosted up to where it will survive the impact with the group and it's on fire, after lets say 10 sec it explodes and so that would give the crew time to leave and get clear of the crash site. This would also make instances where getting to downed pilots will happen more. I wish it would cus i had a awesome time the other day trying to get to the suburbs area of Al Basrah in a HMMWV with my squad to rescue a downed pilot. We managed to get him back to the airfield and back in his blackhawk. Guy ended round with 1 death, and this was only cus some smacktard TKed him.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Say, give the blackhawk enough health to withstand 5 rpg shots(or any other reasonable number) before they explode but make it so 1 either does serious control damage or, in the case of a hit to the tail rotor, complete loss of control. 2 hits would cause complete loss of control, fire, and engine failure after a few seconds. If the pilot can manage to safely land, which is possible, the blackhawk would burn for quite a bit longer and would require it to be destroyed by allied troops to allow another to respawn which would actually represent destroying it because it contains sensitive equipment and avionics that should stay out of enemy hands.

I was just about to hit New Topic on this...
I really would like to see that, too many times you just blow up instead of any "Blackhawk down, Blackhawk down" drama...
Hey we could even do the BHD movie, shoot down a BH in the middle of Al Basrah, the have it land, and while its burning, insurgents run for it and the survivors have to keep them off.
Of course, if there are two goddamn snipers in that BH, they get killed :p

Well, not sure if it's hardcoded but couldn't you make it so the pilot dies after the helo takes a certain amount of damage? Yea, would suck to be a pilot then, but as the odds of having two pilot kits in one helo is low, it would then send the helo out of control.

We tried a couple of things but it wont make 0.6. It's very sad how you can make something work in local but in dedicated it's not that good. :(
