Hypocrisy, and a question.

I've previously gone on record as saying that I am not interested in stats, so this may sound a little hypocritical, but I had a look the other day and noticed that in order to get to first sergeant I had to get my basic knife and pistol badges.

My question is, therefore, how the hell do you ever get your knife badge on an ABR server? What damn fool squad is ever going to let you get close to knife distance?

It is going to get harder for sure. Go rack up your knife kills now before all the vanilla players start jumping ship

Ah, of course! It sort of goes against the grain though. If I can see an enemy, then I'm not interested in dropping my shooting stick so I can pull out a blade, I'll just aim and shoot.

I dont have any pistol badge. But i'm a ABR Colonel.

ABR ranking is mystery to me.. i know you need aviator kills to get past a certain rank.. but thats about it..

Well, no, but I was just wondering how people ever managed to get enough knife kills in one round to get the badge... It just seems to me to be the antithesis of reality.

as I started I was also against ranking since it was egoboostin stuff back in vanilla and I didnt want it for PR to be the same.
but now as Ive been playin more and more I tend to see it from another angle.
ranks for PR dont mean the same thing.
PR has a steep learning curve and they show you who has experience and skill and therefor you can TRUST.
its a massive value for teamplay.

Id say luck perhaps? racking up 7 knifekills in one round is surely very hard to achieve

you get expert by just achieving a certain amount of knifekills. for the basic though you need to get them in one round.
mao is hellofafun just sitting in dark areas as PLA and waiting for your prey to pass by

Fair enough, but then how about your aerial badges? What commander is going to want to let an untested player "have a go" at flying in the middle of a round.

Now I'm not too bad as armchair pilots go, I've been flying flight sims since 1988 (Yeah I know, nearly 20 years) and I can put a little bird down on a sixpence when on my own server, (tuesday night's "cat"astrophe on Sunset city involving a mouse and the family pet notwithstanding) but I can't see getting the opportunity to grab a cobra or an A10 in the near future.

OK…I hope this helps a bit Red.

1 – When and why to use the knife; (This is to cover the “antithesis of reality” bit)

When alone or cut off from squad in enemy territory.

Obviously this is a video game, putting that aside, the knife is only ‘really useful’ when you are behind the lines.

There is no revive from a knife kill.
They are silent, people often think someone has been sniped from long range or they fell off something, either way their guard is down. This allows you to get your next target, while he is looking through his binoculars for the imaginary sniper.

I think I got my expert knife badge on 3 different occasions, due to it not getting recorded the 1st two, and I never tried to get a badge, I just like my knife. So I speak with some knowledge on this.

2 - How to get a lot of knife kills in one round;

Knife kills are fairly easy in PR, to get a lot is a bit more tricky...
There’s one rule: Resist the natural urge to use the rifle even when your target moves unexpectedly, (unless he is facing you and over 10 feet away, of course.)

There are other basic rules but I’m sure you won’t be running across an open field at someone pointing a G3 at you with your knife out.

For grouped targets there are two types you can have success knifing:

Moving groups; away from the action &
Dug-in troops; involved in a long range fire fight.

This 2nd group is the best target. When troops are grouped and firing at fairly long ranges to their targets, they generally loose a lot of their close quarter alertness. They all assume their squad mate is checking there ‘safe’ rear, they rarely are.
If you move into the massed troops and just pick them off one by one from the rear. Not running and swinging but slowly and deliberately you will be amazed at the results.

Moving groups, away from the action;

These also loose there CQ alertness.
You'll be amazed how close and for how long you can follow even a whole squad if you don’t engage them. The important thing is you just running with them till you catch up.. don’t act suspicious and they will, at a glance, assume you are with them.. After all you are just running in the same direction, looking unthreatening. This works when you are behind their lines and they are not expecting attack in that location. I have on quite a few occasions humped with a enemy squad never quite being able to catch up with them until they stop to gather intel or heal etc.. then when they are grouped move in deliberately and get to work.

It would have to be a very long round to get your expert badge on lonewolf snipers.

As far as i'm aware.. you need a certain amount total AND a certain amount in one round for expert.
