Due to proximity fuse and larger warheads a impact fuse is not practical on such a large missile (91KG).It only needs to get close inorder to knock successfully intercept a plane or missile. Impact fusing is used on manpads usually only.Mad Max wrote:Haha I love how the US military classify an "intercept" with a Patriot as "passing near the target". That's the thing. They don't actually work that well(or at least they didn't, but then the US military have a habbit of keeping things in service longer than they really should... like the M16 series and the Abrams which is pretty poor compared to MODERN NATO tanks of the same class). One of the only times I can remember them scoring a direct hit was a slow moving Tornado coming back from a sortie whilst on a pre-designated flight path coming into land.
