wireless- yopur opinions

Post by [SAF]stal20048 »

im guessing this is mostly going out to laptop users.

my dilemma is my new lap top is A LOT better than my desktop home pc.

The problem is that i need to find a suitable way to connect it to the internet.
im just wondering whether there are any wireless users out there, and how using wireless affects performance.

i was thinking of drilling a few wholes through walls, and attach a hardline connection, but thats just plain silly....and there would be wires everywhere.

also, if you guys and girls could direct me to a good wireless router, that would be great too.

oh, and sorry if this is in the wrong area :P

thanks, stal 8-)

oh, and sorry for the topic typo :-0

Why not just use your laptop in the same room where your desktop is? That way you can just connect it with wires, without having to drill holes anywhere.

My wireless is always a pretty good connection from my laptop. Get a netgear or Belkin, they're the best for range and quality of connection.

I have seen many people saying they were playing on wireless but wouldn't that have more lag than being hardwired ? Not to mention the interference with wireless.

To get my wirless to run and emit signal i have 3 seperates wires leading to it, one of which is about 5m long! hehee, wirless is con, proably the greatest con ever.

I need more wires for my wirless internet setup to work than when i had non wirless broadband or dial up for that matter.

Once i had to connect my wirless box directly to my PC by USB cable, but my phone socket was 1.5 floors below (dont ask) so i had to use a double 5m extention to get my "wirless" interent to work, 0.5m from my actualy PC! heheeee

so in my view wirless is a farce but as for laptops it truely the only COOL and INTELIGENT and SUPER way to go.

I'm on wireless. I have a kitchen in my way, I play on US West Coast servers from Brisbane Australia with no lag whatsoever...

Took me a fair bit of time to find the "sweet spot" though, also I fucked around with many options and am using software that is not supposed to work with my card. But thanks to some royal fuckup, it does. No packetloss for me :D

i use it but would never dream of gaming on it with a fps or something, the connection is too unstable imo. you also get quite a bit of interferance depending on what floor your on.

in my experience, wireless + bf2 = game over/

i say this mostly because wireless connections are prone to drop every now and then which gets you boted off the server. thus i only play games such as freelancer on it where if your conection drops for a milisecond you can still continue since it tries to reconect you before booting you.

not saying it drops everytime but it gets annoying, and it is slower then having an ethernet cord pluged into your computer

word. my experience with wireless was, that while having no lag problems whatsoever, i got disconnected every time i connected to a server having voip switched on. not recommendable unless maybe you got cutting edge pro equipment.

my advice: try it. if it works, be happy. if it doesn't get a loooong cable :D

hehe ok, only reason i dont want to have it in the same room as my desktop is that the room is soo damn small.

yeah, but the looks of things ill probably get a belkin and try it out, also my internet socket is slap bang next to my pc, and im in the room next door, (about 40cm through the wall!), so reception should be at max.

cheers guys, time to visit the market!

Well for gaming, theres alot of good wireless Routers, but if your gonna get a decent one with high standards.. playing online games.. you need to pay atleast 1500Kr, im not sure what that is in USD, but i suppose it could be around 150$ ?... I bought my Wired router for half that price... 4 Ports - D Link 604... works like a charm, :)
