will 0.6 bring us the start of the era of super maps?

Post by jackal22 »

i was thinking, with the changes to 0.6 basrah and the new 4x4 maps it seems to me like pr is changing from the typical bf2 setup of lots of different maps, to a few huge maps that encompas everything/

not saying its a bad thing, i actually prefer the idea to a certain extent i was just wondering if it will be the way pr goes?

from what im reading most of the 4x4 maps will have substantial cities/complexs built into them already, so will it be like a mixture of say; sunset city with jabal or something?

if its not clear enough i mean: will pr in future use 5-6 huge maps in place of all the 'little' maps we have now? or are 4x4 maps impossible to use with jungle type battles because of all the trees lagging it?

I like having a lot of maps, but the problem of quality vs. quantity comes up. I'd rather see three or four excellent maps with a lot of variety in them, then a lot of variety between 12 maps that all focus on one combat area (city, jungle, desert, etc.).

I would like more awesome-huge maps, please. With tanks, and helicopters and jets and things. No more tiny infantry maps, we have enough of them! Unless they're very good.

Think Armed-Assault type maps. BIG thingies. Yeah. Muttrah looks like one such Mega-map, but we need more! Woo!

EDIT: But you're doing a good job, Project Reality Devs. "You're a top-notch crew!"

(That might be from BF2124. But the idea's the thing)

We've constantly been adding and culling maps in and out of PR.

Keep in mind there is ONE 17 sq km map in v0.6 and another one in development for v0.7.

Having a good variation of maps is a good thing, but for experienced mappers I'd really like to see them focus on:
- 17 sq km maps
- 1km view range
- destructible buildings
- good balance of Infantry & Vehicles

So it will take a little bit to get there, but after playing around on Kashan Desert and Qinling (v0.7) I really don't know how we could go back to combined arms battles on 25% of the terrain.

Whats Qinling egg? :p

but ye, Like egg says we are doing alot of work for the new "super maps" generation. Infact I started looking into them but only been reciently after [DICE]LexLuther posted on the editor forums about how to get 4km maps to work (with still afew bugs) have we been really working on them. There are like ive said, afew bugs with them like strange shaddows from jets, choppers etc on terrain at times, some bugs with your model "flickering" near the edge of the maps but nothing big that is going to stop us from making them :D

There will be still lots of smaller maps, but the ones where you see the really big amounts of combined arms will be on these "4x4" maps :D

Some VERY encouraging words, as well as Eggman's.

Enough with the wimpy little CS-type infantry maps :p

It's time to get the big boys into play.
