Pistol Strength

im a sniper by nature and occasionally there comes a time when i have to defend myself with my trusty pistol, however i feel it is grosly underpowered, in my whole time playing i think i have only killed one person with it!, is it possible to increase the power subsantially? if this makes the sniper kit a little too overpowered why not sacrifice some of the pistold accuracy? 6 shots to kill someone is way OTT in my oppinion, what do you think?...

depends on user and body armor, killed normal heavy soldier with 3 shots before. Its the MEC pistol i dont like.

I find all pistols except the Sig 226N hard to kill with, if your a sniper you should be soo far away you'd never have to use your pistol especially with the 2 zoom levels ? ive never fired the snipers pistol in anger ;-)

its a standard that all unit's should carry a Pistol... I dont understand why PR doesnt have this

im not saying you CANT kill people with it, im just saying that in my oppinion it is unrealisticly weak, the goal of this mod is realism so i suggested changing it, please dont turn this into a thread flaming others abilities.

squishy you are missing the point..... ill put it as simply as i can

THE PISTOL IS TOO WEAK.

my point is not that it is hard to kill with it, but that it SHOULDNT be that hard

which of the current factions in game supplies all it's soldiers with a sidearm?
And if you choose to answer that one of the factions does, I'd like some proof.

I kind of agree, it's extremely hard to take down guys with the pistol.
But then again, if you are wearing a kevlar vest with a ceramic plate and someone shoots you to the chest with a 9mm pistol I don't think you would give a ****.
Right now the only solution with the pistol is either aim for the head or empty one clip to the body, which usually works if you have enough time. :p

Maybe something like increase the damage done to soldiers without heavy bodyarmor?

It's a puny little pistol against a guy with military grade body armor and a rifle that's several times more accurate. It's not supposed to be instagib.

Aim for the head, that's all I have to say.

Try evading the enemy instead of engaging them CQB with a sniper rifle.

If you know they're coming up the ladder use the knife. It's much more effective.

even if you were wearing NIJ level IV ceramic and kevlar body armour, a shot from a 9mm pistol would firstly stop you in your tracks if not knock you down, then it would have shattered the ceramic plate then all you have protecting yourself is kevlar, a +/- 10 degrees angle of attack, the average kevlar vest with no ceramic can stop 1 bullet, at +/-45 degrees its almost twice the thickness of kevlar and can stop a lot more(around 6 bullets), i know that this would be impossible to accuratly implement into the game hance saying the pistol needs more power, else its a waste of space and i'd rather have another primary mag in its place!

No, it isnt.

In the British army very few soldiers are issued with sidearms as if you've got a fireteam to cover your back in case of a jam its more useful to carry extra magazines for your rifle rather than hauling a 9mm around.

I should imagine the US military and PLA have similar doctrines and the MEC is fictional, so the devs can do what they damn well like.

Anyway, against body armour most of the pistols (M9, L9A1, P226 & MR-444) should have rather a tough time getting a kill unless you shoot the enemy in the face, as modern body armour can usually stop 9x19mm ball ammo. However, the chinese pistol, the QSZ-92, uses the 5.8x21mm round, which is apparently an armour pierceing round similar to the FN 5.7x28mm or H&K 4.6x30mm, which should have superior performance against personal body armour.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

it isnt a standard, only people who go to see officers regulary will be issued them, no big need for them reely

i only ever have to use it when i have no spotter or backup and some sneaky little insurgent manages to creap up on me lol. like i said, its a very rare occurrence but in the name of realism, in my oppinion the pistol is far to weak.....

....come to think of it, do insurgents even have body armour?

Sorry, they got not chance against a ceramic plate and a decent ammount of kevlar.


Considering the DEVs already had to increase the power of rifles signifcantly agaist body armour due to the lack of proper hit boxes, disabling, dragging of bodies - engine limitations ext. ext., i would expect the pistols are already more pwoerfull against body armour than they are in real life, therefore i would not expect any more increases.

Standard Ceramic plate = 3 - 5 7.62mm rounds stoped, and those are seriously high velocity, therefore i woudl expect ceramic plate inserts and armour to be able to withstand 10 + pistol rounds.


p.s insurgents have dope and such, so they also have protection....mental but only for the very short term. LOL< tis true.

problem with 9mm ammo though is that it travels at like half the velocity of a rifle round and 1 third of that of a sniper rifle, they tend to shatter ceramic instead or punching through but being slowed significantly enough for the kevlar to stop the round, same principle when firing into water in real life, a 9mm round has about 10 times the penetration than a .50 cal sniper round when fired into water, its all down to speed and amount of deceleration, the higher velocity rounds tend to disintegrate

Most insurgents dont have body armour, only war vets IIRC.

short range damage from pistols against unarmoured foes should probubly be pretty big, but there might be problems coding that in combined with poor performance against body armour.

And really, if an insurgent sneeks up on you and opens up with his AK you probubly should be pretty screwed.

However, if you can get the first shot in, it should knock him off balance and what not for you to turn him into a pencil.
