Driving Tips
I just started playing PR about 2 weeks ago, and I've really gotten into it, I don't see myself playing any other game for now, and for awhile.
Since i'm only 2 weeks in I'm still wet behind the ears and i'm trying to soak in as much as I can from the vets to become a better and more distinguished player.
After driving around a bit I realized that using the keyboard theres no-speed and full speed. This is difficult because sometimes squads use the vehicles as cover and you can't move the same speed as the guys on foot. This lead me to an idea thats really worked out. Use a Joystick to control the acceleration and turning of a vehicle. I pulled out my old left handed joystick and with a mouse in one hand and the joystick in the other i'm able to move the vehicle at the same pace as the squad giving them the full cover they need, as well as a steady slow speed for the vehicle gunner to have better accuracy without having to expose the vehicle to a whole bunch of guys.
I'm planning to become a full-time driver for any vehicles on the map to support squads. If anyone else has good driver tips such as placement, direction, what to do when fired at by RPGs, or how to spot RPGs, what to do when flanked. I'd imagine most of its common sense but i'm sure theres a few tricks out there. Most of the time when i'm faced against an RPG i GTFO (get the fuck out) and repair or try to come from a diffrent angle.

I didnt (and i know a few others who didnt) notice this until a while back but..
when using a keyboard to control a vehicle, if you hold down the left shift button, you get kind of a turbo boost and you go faster for a while.
Although, seeing as you're using a joystick to control speed, im not sure if this affects it!
Maybe you should look into

Don't drive APCs right up to the enemy. APCs work as spawn points too, so staying alive with the APC helps everyone. Use the turret for defense, not attacks, most of the time. When someone spawns on your APC, wait a few seconds incase he wants to request a kit (done from the rear of the APC). If things heat up, you have the right of way

You can turn your back on a person, but never turn your back on a drug, especially when its waving a razor sharp hunting knife in your eye.

to bad the thing clamps on to my desk in the same area I use as a mousepad, or could just leave it in place.
One thing a clanmate hat pointed out to me though, If you leave the wheel plugged in, and off to the side you can still assign the pedals as controls, he used to use it for the Helo throttle, though I found that a bit akward. Unfortunatly pedal travel is different as well as the resistance or I would use them as rudders.

Props to Mofficer for his support role preference. I also find it very enjoyable to provide ground transport to allied squads when I am not serving in 1stMIP.
I use a Microsoft FF wheel with pedals. Just like Mofficer mentioned, that gives you pretty good speed control. Especially if you are patrolling an area or following infantry from a distance.
Big thanks to DICE for multi-controller support !
Couple of good points mentioned already like keeping vehicle safe at a distance to enemy. I will add "concealment/cover" concept. Concealing your vehicle or putting it behind good cover prolongs the service time...
I wish we could camouflage our vehicles...Oh boy, that would be sweet
