Rockets launchers are technically recoilless but recoilless gun is usually reserved for weapons that rely on launching propellant alone. As the diagram shows the AT-4 is simply a more compact upgrade of the Carl-Gustav recoilless gun. Just think of them as a portable tank cannon that has an open rear for some of the blast to escape and a fin stabilized HEAT warhead.

So how does the AT-4 fly? Just the initial charge in the tube "tossing" the warhead? Doesn't sound like it should go very far...

EDIT: Something just came to my mind; I would love it if someone could prove me wrong here because it would interest me very much to se another launch system which can generate such an effective flight distance as the AT-4 without a sustainer engine, I'm not a 100 % sure that the AT-4 uses a counter-weight principal, but by all logic it should.

I wouldn't mind an arming timer on AT rockets, it would eliminate the threat of blowing yourself up and stop lame suicide tactics.
