takes 10 hours to download PR...

Post by Zearo »

This might not belong here but for me it takes 10 hours to download PR. the Mod sounds really good, and i'd quiet like to play it, but my poor internet speed does not allow it. Is there any way to mail it out or a quicker way to download it?

Heh... my copy of the v0.6 beta took one :p

But all the other times 8-10 hours sounds like the usual.

Im sorry to say that there's no quicker way to get it, unless someones sends it over to you in a CD via mail, but Im sure those 10 hours would be faster than using the mail. On the other hand...it takes me 24+ hrs to download the mod...so I can't participate in BETAs because by the time I download it, stress test will be already over :-P

EDIT: Yeah, what Rhino said. It's what I do lol

No, it's not about servers. You download through torrent, so you download from many players, not one server in particular.

I left my comp on at night and don't really know how long it took. Don't really care either ;) .

I did it in 27 minutes :P ...

Anyway to the subject, you dont have any friends that have a better connection and a dvd burner or a portable hdd/really big usb memory? Because that would be a good solution.

Its becouse there is to many that downloads it from the server. Try to download it at night or find another server to download it from. It worked for me. In the afternoon it took 5-15 hours, so i cancel it and tried at night. Then it only took 1½ hour!

Hope that helps.

Uhm, the question is, what kind of internet connection does the OP have?
He said "poor internet speed", so having a fast server wont help him ;) .
Maybe someone could send him a burned copy (for a little $).

Do you pay for your internet by the hour or something like that?

If not, why can't you just wait the 10 hours?

Just leave it on when you go out or sleep. 10 hours is not that long.

I usually do leave downloads going while I sleep, but when the 0.6 beta came out, which I only found in .torrent form, I had to watch that like a small child with many life threatening illnesses that reacted with things which the small child was surrounded by. It was CONSTANTLY spinning down to 0 and stopped working. Funny thing I was I could watch the Seeds and Peers come back after they also restarted the download.

mine normaly takes about 7 - 9 hours. I try to download it about 3:00pm and fail until about 8-9:00pm when i get the torrent or download to work properly. I then precede to go to bed leaving it running, however before i fall asleep i check when time i wil have to get up to install it as soon as it has finished downlaoding. This results in me arising at the god awfull hour of between 4:00 and 5:30 am, playing PR for about 2 hours and then either having breakfast or going going back to bed for about 30 mins. The overall result of this is, general high levels of happiness but feeling and looking fcking shit for the rest of the day.
This happens, roughly 3 -4 times a year, depending of number of PR versions released.
I like to think as it as a little tradition and i have also not been found doing so by my parents, which is both a myracle and relief considering the sickening irony that would insue, namely hte banning of the playing of PR for a good week or so, however much i tryed to explain to them the importance of THIS LATEST VERSION of PR i now had and all its wondefull features...........................
