Tunnels

tunnels are a bit tricky, because the Battlefield 2 engine does not support them, the only way i see to use something like tunnels on Al Bashra would be, that the insurgents get a kind a static vehicle that is just visable as a few tunnel entrances that you can enter, like a vehicle and then you change your possition ("seat") and exit the tunnel somewhere else

like some kind of warp point huh? nah thats a bit cheesy...basically you cnat tunnel into the terrain in BF2 so you have to make a static of the terrain to cover the tunnels...these always turn out looking a bit fake and the lighting never quite matches..not to mention if you use alot of polys you WILL cause lag...
we have considered it from time to time but no good system yet...

that tunnel is not going under terran is it.Summers4545 wrote:What about the tiny sewer on Muttrah City? That's a tunnel..... A very small one, but its a tunnel.
The best exsample of how a tunnel is done in BF2 is if you look at the train tunnel we made on OGT, if you look at it up close, you will notice the "terrain" over the top of the tunnel is infact not terrain atall, its just a model that looks like terrain

HoH has a few small tunnels scattered about as well.
But I admit, I'd love to see a map with an extensive tunnel network in PR.

I liked what they had on .5 basrah, the psuedo tunnel system made of houses and stuff. I kind of miss those tbh.

@Jonny, that is not possible, just try to open up the BF2 Editor and crate a new terrain, and see how it works from there if you want. You basicly get a grid of terrain you can work with, each grid squar is 2x2 meters (or 4x4 meters on a sclae 4 map). you can only move these squares up and down, and that is really it. The only way to make a tunnel is to move the terrain down into a big pit, then put statics over the top of the pit to cover up the top, and then you have a tunnel.

You know, the tunnel. The one which the train tracks go through. The one with a flag in it, and a room on the south side.El_Vikingo wrote:Wheres that fecking Tunnel in OGT?!?!?!?!??!?!
What about the Hamgyong tunnel?!?!
Intel reguarding the HoH tunnel is classified for the time being.

all tunnels you see in BF2 are models, they are basicly the same as walking though a door in the building.... you could call being inside a building a "tunnel".El_Vikingo wrote:I know the HoH tunnel, is that terrain or object?
fooking hell, all this time I thought there was a secret tunnel in OGT, and it turns out to be the train tunnel. 0_o
and the OGT train tunnel is the best exsample of how a tunnel is done in BF2, even thou it looks like its cut though the terrain (like in real life) but infact its not.

Due to the BF2 engine being made by EA and Dice, terrain cannot be altered in game. The only tunnles you will find are ones like on HoH, where statics have been placed to give the effect of a tunnle.
There is the BF:VN approach which is basicly have the tunnle as a placable, much like the RPs we know today. The would be spawn points and would take shovels to build.
