Making a Real Black Hawk Down Map PR and vBF2 (after PR version) Suggestions?

Ok, small update since I got the renderer minculldistance 2000 thing set... just to show off the road as it is right now. Still cant get undergrowth to be visible at any distance, must be missing something... i dont think i set a model/texture for it, and im not sure how, i'll get on that...
Pic 1 showing the full rendered map as it stands now (still without wolcotts crash site and any filler buildings)

Note on first picture. There will be wolcott's crash off to the left and off to the right is the Insurgent spawn (both of which you cant see in this picture) It looks linear, but with PR's AASx2, it will be in this order(for "rangers") Checkpoint, Target, Both Crash Sites, Outer Bakara Market, then the Insurgent spawn will be uncappable I think...
Idea!: Extract from Wolcott's Crash Site!!! ooOOOoo.... I'll leave that up to someone else...
Pic2 shows the airport and the road from airport to city with the little pond and village I added in to avoid boring plain open desert with no strategic or visual(?) value...but there WILL be open desert... i'm sure... im still considering adding in the stadium with armor... im REALLY REALLY leaning towards NO because I dont want another Al Basrah. I want it ground infantry with helos (A and Mh-6's and BH's) (no attack helo except AH-6)

Also, as I look at the airport, I think it needs another runway to make it a bit thicker. Probably wont go diagonal, maybe alongside the other one, but with space in between. I'll see what room i have and what looks best.(in other words, the airport doesnt have to be an exact copy of the one IRL)
You freakin' better appreciate this upload of 2 wholesome-amazing-beautiful pics... no matter how lame and not impressive. It took like 20 minutes to upload to photobucket!

Just got an idea to add some wear and tear to the road: I'm going to drop it down a bit from the area around it and put ditches or something along the side. As it stands right now, its a bit too clean and unworn with nice shrubbery on the sides looking all pretty... all in good time...

Actually... how else would I place them?
I mean, not EVERY ONE by hand, like, i placed a handfull, copied, pasted, copied more pasted... etc. ? Theres some overgrowth button thing, but I didnt want to try to use it when I knew this would work... @_@
The past few hours I have placed powerlines... lots. Thereby making my roads straighter.
I tried to load it up on my solo server, but it crashed around...33% maybe? firgured it would anyway though...
Aside from power lines, Ive been aligning roads and planning out more of the city...

Itll be bigger. Itll be flushed out. Basically, you see the spawn point all the way to the left on the fully zoomed out pic ? There will be city to there (maybe not a great amount North and South as it isnt relevant to the control points) and Also from the main street w/ target building, hotel, and Durants crash, go East, there will be a lot there added in as I still have yet to add Wolcott's crash site in.Spush wrote:Very nice, but is that the city size you have planned for the map, or are you gonna make the city larger like on Al Bashra??
So yes, it'll be bigger. My ultimate goal, aside from a more realistic Mogadishu map is to make a more infantry oriented alBasrah type map (with only BH's, little birds, and Humvees, no tanks or APC's)

Sorry. I just dont want another AlBasrah (as much as I enjoy it)
I really want a map where the US is forced to fight on the ground with Humvees as their only ground support vehicles. Of course, they will have Black Hawks and A/Mh-6's in the air, but the insurgents will have rpg's.
And yepp, the city is still in the bare bones stage. I more or less plotted the control points and am now building the city up around them. Last ngiht I made big steps towards connecting the insurgent spawn with the rest of the city.
Time for work. Update tonight or tomorrow.

Yeah, The road isnt 100% accurate, but heck, the airport isn't either. What I really want to be as accurate as possible is the city. Not down to each building specifically, but the basic layout, path from one control point to another, relative distance, etc.im remember in the movie that the humvess drove alone the shoreline near the black hawks and littlebirds then they drove threw hills
Of course, later I might rework the airport(For example, it was way too time consuming to place the airport at roughly a 30degree angle to the ocean...) and road from airport to city. I wish I had a scanner, I'd put up even more pictures I have of the actual airport, but yeah...
also, that was in the movie, and, i know the movie tried to be close to realistic, and they probably DID drive along the beach, but yeah... im trying to avoid directly using the movie (except for insiration. and for some areas in the city that I think need a bit of hollywood)

thanks eddie13. Actually, I got those pics awhile back too. haha.
My sources have been:
Black Hawk Down - Mark Bowden, I used the book for descriptions I couldnt get from satellite maps, like how the majority of telephone poll wires had been stripped bare and sold on the black market, things like that.
The Movie - To a much lesser extent (more or less for the feel of the city and inspiration)
Maps from BHD the book, Mark Bowden
Maps off of googlemaps
The website of a photojournalist who travelled to the Mog, Afghanistan, and various other hot spots (was killed by the machine gun fire from a tank in... I dont remember where) - anyway, his site had some really good shots of Mogadishu on the ground...
I should get started on a "thanks to" list for Rambo Hunter and the like... but alas... i REALLY need to get ready for work...

Minimap update, because on 56k, I dont want to wait forever. Bigger update coming soon?
The white boxing represents roughly where the city will extend to when finished (left to insurgent spawn, right to wolcott's crash site). I will probably throw in some nice rolling hills or mountainous areas on the outside of the city... just depends on how it looks.

Umm, thats all I can think of... lately I've been a bit more creative in creating my villages and streets, so I hope this leads to a nice immersive mission setting:
-telephone wires dangling
-telephone poles fallen on cars
-nice living areas inside a square of shops/offices
-trash burning in streets to prevent/deter access
-areas that lend themselves easily to harsh street fighting
-halfway decent vegitation for cover and prettiness
-appropriate use of concrete walls to create alleys and aid in the confined feel
I think that's it. I ran out of cool ideas... most of these are already in there... not really cool ideas, but things I've kept in mind.
