Shot Guns Aim

Post by Lt_Bren »

Iv looked and couldnt see this anywhere so i apologies if this has already been mentioned. This might also be in .6, im downloading as we type, again if it is i apologies.

Anyway when zoomed in on the shot guns it still shows the "virtual" aim on screen, this needs to be changed, every other gun as you know uses no aim but the gun sight.

You don't use a sight for shotguns though do you? I'm sure one of our many experts will correct me, but wouldn't a shotgun smack you in the face with the recoil if you tried to aim it using some kind of sights?

you use sights on shotguns when clay shooting, in CQB with combat shotguns you prolly shoot without sights, but for the slugs/zoomed in you should use the iron sights

Iron sights for shotguns were looked at some time ago (they were supposed to be in for 0.5, IIRC) but they were deemed too much work for too little benefit (as shotguns are only used by a single class on a few maps) and so it was decided to give them the old vBF2 cross hairs, which are substantially better than nothing (which we had back in v0.4).

Its not ideal, but its a fairly good solution until the devs have time to put in the sights proper.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Shotguns need iron sights IRL. Even at close range firing from the hip with buckshoot you could miss a guy at 10 yds. The spread is not very big at close range. You could shoulder the weapon and keep both eyes open and direct the gun in the general area without the sights and probably be accurate enough at 10yds.

Yes a 12 guage kicks hard but if it hits you in the face your doing something wrong  Or your a little girly man (best Arnold voice possible there)

I use the sights when I shoot my Remington 12 Gauge while I got hunting. Just tuck the shotgun up to your shoulder and rest your cheek on the butt of the weapon lol. Why would they have sights if youre not supposed to use them...

If you are referring to the Terminator 2 1887 Shotgun that SatNav made, he didn't actually use the sights. When sighting in, the animation centered the weapon and brought it up about 40% up from the bottom of your screen. The end of the barrel was almost in the center, but it wasn't using the Irons, he still had the Vanilla BF2 Circle Sight that every shotgun I have used in any BF2 mod has had.
Other than the cheap AS-12 that was in Rising Conflicts, that had a Croshair with a box in the middle, still sucked though.

Yeah, you use the sights in real life. In fact, I think the sights would be quite useful, but TBH the current crosshair system is adequate until finishing touches are made prior to the final release.

a) 12g recoil is over exaggerated; 8mm Mauser is more intimidating.
b) If you want to hit anything with a slug, consistantly, you'll want to use any sort of sights on a shotgun; bead, ghostring, notch..
