Outside of the lag issue (I don't fully understand the effects) if the City had street lights and burning vehicles in some areas the NVG's wouldn't be a huge advantage. In fact the Brits would need to use them as they moved about the city but would need to take them off once they got close to the light areas. Outside the city the NVG's would be an advantage for sure but once in the city things could get ugly for them.

Hmm "steam engine" steam is related to CSS which has HDR lighting. Bingo! HDR in BF2 ---> make it happen people! ;-)

Hey if you think a "steam engine" is cool, then you're outdated.

The reason Bi Ming doesn't have glows and lightsources is because of the fog. Unfortunately they dissappear when they hit the fog and because the fog is set in so close to prevent gamma hacking they look a little silly just popping up out of nowhere. So its a choice; fancy lighting that would add to the atmosphere but allow for gamma hacking, or no fancy lighting and no gamma hacking? I went for no gamma hacking because for me gameplay comes first :)

I agree, it would be awesome to have some city/desert nightmaps too! :D

I agree with Dr Rank, less lights to prevent gamma hacking (I don't think turning gamma up from the monitor setting actually counts as hacking though).
Although, your eye does get used to the little amount of light provided by starlight and/or moonlight, but this isn't ArmaA...

Try Romanian diesel locomotive, those aren't cool (good, useful etc) even if they're brand new...

Damn it!! Steam engines with fecking COAL!!!!!!!

I have to explain everything!!!!!

BTW, anything that puts you to an advantage by changing settings (especially haveing daylight in night maps) counts as hacking. But don't turn this thread into low spec hardware and high psec hardware settings!

You want the insurgents to walk around in the dark ?
As far as I know you can't use flashlights in PR so they would be blind.
But Kashan.....now there is a map for night ops.
It's the desert, add a full moon and turn it into one of those EA-style 'less than pitch dark' night maps.

I like the idea of a moonlit Al Basrah mostly because it would make it a bit easier for Insurgents imo, then again the way I'd like it would be more of a stylistic thing with a lessened emphasis on the effect to gameplay.

It would be harder to tell enemy positions in the dark, friend from foe, and also Civilian from Combatant. In other words, it would change the situation to cater more toward ambush and stealth tactics.

I actually think thats kind of a good idea. chalk it up to being a big moon

People, when in doubt I defualt to sarcasim (Hmm, that could be why I have no friends...?). I realize the limitations here. I think a moonlight map would be nice, get rid of the need for some form of man made lighting to aid the insurgents.

correct me if wrong, but insurgent fighters rarely fight during the night correct?

here are some reasons:

*no nvg's (as many of you guys mentioned).
*they hit their low from khat, adrenaline, pcp or whatever.
*most of them want sleep more than taking potshots at the infidels.
*they are probably tired.

true, they aren't as active during the night, partly because it's hard to see.
