Quite frequently when I am playing there is no commander so I think it would be nice if the SLs could chat to each other over the normal SL<->Cmdr channel.
This would make it much easier to organise things between squads without the oppressive^Wguiding hand of a commander
Of course I am not sure if it's even possible for a mod to do this
Face ti chaps, and many dont want to, Teamspeak and/or Ventrillo are the future.
THE DEVs can only do so much with squad system, therefore it is up to us to come up with our own ways to communicate in game. Preferably, all players who think they might SL in a game, should join the server they are playing on TS channel.
NOT their own (unless pre-orgmeet, with hopefully 4+ peeps) TS, Vent server but on the servers. THis is becuase otherwise you will have 15 players all on 5 different server, therefore the point of using TS or Vent completely
destroyed.
TS or and Vent can alllow any one to COMMUNICATE with ANY ONE ELSE. That means, the tank or APC not in your squad but whos driver is on a VOIP server IS now of some use. You can directly aks for firesupport or transport with no difficulites at all, instant perfect communication.
The CO can do some things, like transfer requests, but in reality he should be focusing on tactics overall and little things like imdiate fire support or transport should be done SL to vehicle driver, gunner with out an intermidery.
So for the LOVE OF PR, GET TEAMSPEAK or VENTRILLO and JOIN THE SERVER YOU PLAY ON REGULARLY TEAMSPEAK or VENTRILLO server and starting getting transport from APCs when and where you actual need it, airsupport when and where you actualy need it, NOT 5 mins to late for both.
Teamspeak and or Ventrillo are the future of tactics for PR, they are used already by special groups but PR is about public games and it has already proven that every player can and is willing to use VOIP, so there is absolutely NO reason why you should not get one of these programs and login.
p.s i know some physicaly cant for hardware reasons but that only about 5% or less of the entire PR playing population.
This is a problem with every teamworky game out there that doesn't support VOIP/supports VOIP crappily - people playing in pubs generally don't join TS servers. It just doesn't happen, and I doubt it'd start happening in PR. That's why many games have built-in VOIP capabilities - although external programs are often more configurable and feature better codecs, people are more likely to use what they have access to instantly, and what's already there.
But we dont need all 64 players on TS, 20 would surfice, whcih woudl mean all Squad leaders would be able to comm with each other.
It will take time, but i already log into the TS server of PR server i normaly play on. Others do aswell, it is just about increasing numbers and it is really a very achievable goal.
So the short answer is to push people to sign onto TS servers as much as possible.
I admit I rarely sign onto a TS server even though I tend to stay in the game server for multiple rounds.
I will change my ways and encourage others to do so as well.
I think the slower pace of .6 and the increased logistical demand will help the effort.
And as the windshield melts
My tears evaporate
Leaving only charcoal to defend.
Finally I understand the feelings of the few.
When there is no commander I type it out in chat what my squad is doing and try to coordinate. For example we were play QWAI on TG the other day without a commander on the US side, and through text chat, we were able to organize all of our squads to put quite the hurt on the enemy! Our chopper pilots were also watching chat and doing as asked. Don't underestimate the usefulness of text chat.
Well, this is what I usually do: type it out in caps and the sort. But that's under the condition other SLs or the one you are communicating with responds.
Let's say I'm SL of squad 1. Even if I'm not telling someone else to do something, I usually just say what I'm doing, such as "1 IS ATTACKING FLAG X." Or, if I'm talkin to someone else, it usually goes something along the lines of "SQUAD2, ASSAULT FLAG Y." Short, simple, and in caps. Always works haha. This usually gets others attentions and they do either the same, or we type out a plan.
Can't you program a stupid bot to be commander just to take the spot and but can also be kicked upon request for mutiny so anyone that wants to be commander gets it?
