scope change

Post by Soalic »

Maybe for the next beta release or the final, wouldn't it be more realistic instead of (for snipers) the scope being just a single image, could it be more realistic than it is or is it hardcoded? What I mean is, on a real scope, you have to be a certain length away from the scope to see through it, and you have to align your eye with the scope, so if your standing, it would be harder to see through the scope than when you are prone. The post might sound confusing, but i didn't know another way to say it :D .

BTW, yes it did search.

What you mean is that you want to see around the scope and not just a black thing with a circle in the middle, right?

Like how the M4 Aimpoint is?
I like that idea, how hard is it to add a blurscope or watever it's called to it? or is the problem how you can't have the different zoome levels?

Bingo.

Suggested before, unpossible.

IBTL! :p
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Like this. This is hardcoded, but I may be misunderstanding your post.

OK, i guess you didn't get it. I took a video from our digital camera (thats y its bad quality) to show you what I mean. The scope is accually on my airsoft gun, but it is a real scope. http://s88.photobucket.com/albums/k188/ngarner11/?action=view&current=DSCN2015.flv See what i mean by, as you move even slightly, the scope goes black or out of focus. Thats what i meant. Its probably hardcoded like the thousands of other things, but its just an idea.

EDIT: ^ not that, in my video....

It would be cool, but to make it realistic, it would have to be on the edge of your screen (2 eyes, one on the scope, one off of it) but the "bullets" are fired out of the middle of the screen, not the front of the gun.

Also, as been said before, it is hardcoded. We cannot make only the scope be magnified while the rest of the screen is unchanged.

TRIggS didn't suggest anything, he was trying to decipher what the suggestion was and shooting it down if that is what he meant, "BF2 cannot render two different magnification distances on the same screen at the same time" if the suggestion was having the scope zoom but the view around it stay at 0 magnification.

And, as for the actual suggestion for misaligning your eye with the scope, isn't there already some weapons that do that? I know I've used some things, that when magnified were off center and therefore useless.
But, couldn't this be done by having over-animated 3D sights? Rather than having a flat scope graphic, make a sight model of a cylinder with cross bars for the sights and such. It wouldn't be the same, but it could achieve the same effect of messing up someone's shot/sight when in motion, more so than it already is by deviation.

Erm...I'm assuming the scope is bobbing around because he's holding the cam with one hand and the weapon with the other...

he is trying to say when u standong up and walking/shuffling around as a sniper while zoomed in its very hard to keep ur eye exactly inline so u get that black ring, got nothin to do with the guy not being able to use the scope or not, or if its got the eyepiece, most snipers wont go around walking and firing, as they cannot keep they arm perfectly steady and balanced to there walk SO they would see the black ring

Snipers don't walk. They're everywhere at once.

...they can see you...
