I thought the mod was set in 2010, that's 2.5 years from now. You think these weapons featured in "future weapons" will be in the mod?

Some of the weapons in future weapons are already seeing action in Iraq. So I dont know why they wouldnt be in the mod. There are rumors floating around that the Buffalos and cougars will replace the five tons and duece an a halves, maybe even Humvees.... Humvees I doubt, but five tons I can easily see...

Are thought it was set between 2002/3 and 2005. LOL

I bet even the DEVs dont know, or could disagree about it till the end of eternity and ANY WAY, IT DOES NOT REALLY MATTER!

Don't forget Mastiff and Bulldog vehicles for the British.
thoughts on the feasabilty for Al-Basrah?

Balanced would perhaps be a Recoilless rifle on the back of a technical for the Insurgent faction?

heh heh, a couple of Mastiff's to suppliment the jeeps on AlBasrah would work a treat!
also i like the idea of the Cougar for the US, although im not so keen on the Buffalo and tbh i dont see the point in the Bulldog, may aswell have a Warrior IFV instead of that thing.

I'd like to see the Bulldog (and other pure battle taxis) replacing the IFVs as the mobile spawn in the mod so the IFVs can get on with supporting the infantry, rather than skulking around as a spawn point.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

I seem to remember seeing vehicles like those in Angola in 80's, not me personally but pictures of them.
It's a shame that nobody thought ahead and maybe imagined that mines and roadside bombs would an issue but ..hindsights' 20/20.
As for what year the game is set in .I would agree with Top Cat and just add that is and always will be ...3-5 years ahead of the current date to preserve the fiction that the game is not modeled on current conflicts.
And as the windshield melts
My tears evaporate
Leaving only charcoal to defend.
Finally I understand the feelings of the few.

Yeah, the South Africans used very similar viechles, the Casspir and Nyala during the border war.

Following the fall of Aparthied several of the engineers who worked on them moved to the US and now we have the Buffalo and Cougar. Kind of similar to the Milkor MGL coming into service with the US.

I wonder what other children of the South African Border war we will see come into wider recognition in the future...

Apartheid, its Dutch, so after the fall of Apartheid they moved to the US, that just sounds wrong.
What combat role does the that british Bulldog have, it kind of looks like an updated Brengun carrier from WWII.
(Or is it just that American APC the ?-117)
Did the South Africans have lots of trouble with mine attacks during their border war back then and were there armoured cars therefor purpously build?

The "bulldog" is the latest version of the FV432 APC, which is fairly similar to the american M113 in design and role, though its not amphibious.

Its would seem the SAs did indeed have trouble with mines and whatnot during the border war and fighting against rebels in South Africa.
