[R-DEV]Eddie Baker : “The M16 series rifles as issued to conventional troops do not have unrestricted full automatic fire”.
Roger that Eddie, but 3 rounds burst instead of full auto is a real disadvantage in terms of play balance, presently most people in US teams are taking spec ops or take enemy weapons kits to get the full auto in close combat that gives really an edge on most maps…

As it has been suggested for 0.6, we could try to even things a little by giving US marines forces small scopes as it is the case for most M16A4 used by marines forces, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M16_rifle . That would be just for officer & riflemen, as it’s already the case Chinese army… that has furthermore the full auto fire !

Hence I suggest a slightly more powerful zoom for US compared to other riflemen weapons that would even things out when facing other armies.
Another way to even things a bit would be to lower Chinese weapon efficiency (one or the other, not both !-). Well, balancing armies and keeping on with realism is a tough issue ;-)

Obviously this is another "I can't play, please make it easier for me".

Have you ever double clicked when in burst mode?

I don't know, but the fire rate on burst is faster than full auto on some weapons.
Zoom on ironsights? You're joking?

It has been said in countless threads that the M16A4 is going to have Full auto and an ACOG.

Its faster than all the other factions primary rifles infact (G3, L85, QBZ-95 and AK-47 are all 600 RPM). just click lots instead of holding down the gun in full auto.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Isn't this Project Reality? M16A4 with full-automatic is not realistic.

Are you sure about the full auto bit El_Vikingo? Thought the M16A4 was still 3 round burst.

0.6 has an enhanced iron site zoom for the rifleman kit as a place holder until the ACOG is ready.

The Devs are not going to go change realistic elements to make the game more balanced, sorry.

We've had folks form the Marine Corps validate the weapons. ACOG is missing, hacked in a 4x iron sight zoom for Rifleman in v0.6 as a placeholder.

M16A3 - Full auto,
M16A4 - 3rd Burst.

And, No. We don't want A3 variants, because its not used be the USMC.

Am I seriously the only person who uses single shot 90% of the time, even in CQB? I do not find having now full auto a disadvantage at all. It doesn't take an entire mag to take someone down, so closely grouped shots in semi auto can have a better effect than unloading on someone like you're wielding an MG.

Same here, I do it with the M16, the sound of it makes me feel it got more power than it has.. So I just spam my LMB in CC :D

Funny thing is for me I'm starting to use auto more. I use to use semi for the majority of the time on all maps. I find on some maps (Ghost train comes to mind) that I keep the gun on auto more now. By the time I see the enemy on Ghost train it's usually to late. I was able to stay alive much longer with a decent mix of auto and semi. But for for any medium range and up semi is king. I laugh when I see some one on Basrah shooting at some one 250m away waisting a whole clip for nothing.

Single shot for the win! I never use Auto, and only sometimes use burst. 1-2 Shots in higher area = death.

Semi-auto usage was always a difference between soviet conscripts and special forces ( VDV , Marines , batallion\regiment level recon units and others )
Don't know anything about western soldiers , but soviet elite troops used their AK's on single shot ( full auto for clearing buildings ONLY )

The only time I use full auto is on the end of Bi Ming when my team wins. NVGs off, safety off, tracers are go!

I always set my rifle to Full or Burst shot when ever I'm moving, but I'll switch to Single or Tap-Fire on Full Auto to hit a target.

I still find Burst and Auto much more effective for CQB, but only in short bursts of 2-4 rounds. Well, unless you Prone Spam, then full auto works for CQB.

I will never use Single Shot in CQB. Why? Well, in PR .5, I was playing Police Man for the Insurgents (Everyone is your ***** when you're the only one on the team with ammo.) And, as most of you know, the Police Man has a shotgun. Me and a group of people were setting up a good Ambush/Cut Off line between the Airport and NVCP. I was walking around a destroyed building (Yes, the static prop, not the new ones you can blow up.) and a USMC Soldier came up to me around the building and dived to the ground. He was Light AT with an M16 set to single... I was able to pump three buckshot shotgun shells into him (Aiming for his head which didn't seem to do anything :roll: ) and he only hit me once or twice. That's why I never use single in CQB.

I use the assault rifle as it was meant to be used, single shot for medium and long range, bursts or full auto for short range.

Yes you can kill someone with single shots at close range but if you can control the recoil you will always make sure they are no longer a threat. Full auto and bursts are great for short range work in the jungle too. Just fire a burst or two into tall grass or shrubs where you think the enemy is shooting at you frrom. In that case it is much more effective than single shots.
