Then why most of the website out there have donation options?
People arent obliged to give money, hence why its called "donation". If someone feels like giving money to the Mods to help further developement of the project, then he's free to do it. Its not like they were wandering around telling people "give us ur monniez or we ban j00!"

I dont see why it is considered illegal.

I would tithe to PR if it was possible.

I'm not sure if it was donations or paying for the mod, either way I'm sure EA will be pissed.

So it would be illegal to pay the PR team for the game.
But would it be illegal for someone to collect money for whatever purpose you wanted to list, pay the apropriate taxes and fees and simply give that money to a single individual ?

Can't see how it would be illegal. Plus it all depends what countries laws you are talking about.

Why would EA be pissed? The donations would not be so the Devs starting making money out of this as they have already said that is not of interest to them. I'm sure if it amounted to something they would use it to hire animators or buy audio items etc etc.

Money would likely go to server costs for GloryHoundz IIRC. Not sure of the whole legality issue, would be best to let Requiem or Egg explain that.

Yeah the actual distribution of the money would casue a problem for the Dev's I think. Don't get me wrong, i'd love it if the Dev's were paid but as it's a casual non-paid operation how would you divvy up the cash? Start a payroll? X amount for creating a map, X amount for coding, X amount for audio work... it gets very complicated quickly and i'm sure the dev's wouldn't want to get into all that even though in theory it's a good idea.

I don't think it would go to paying them, it would probably go to paying all the costs.

Things like hosting this site, vBulletin licenses etc. all cost money. And it's coming out of the DEVs pockets for paying those costs.

I'm sure the team would rather you help out with suggestions, playtesting, mapping, coding and 3d-modelling. Time is worth more than cash to mod teams.

Bingo.

Hosting a website, forums, IRC servers, etc...this shit aint free. It our job as a community to help the developpers. Its a great way to give our support to the mod.

How about we just start a seperate site, raise the money for some hookers and plain tickets, then send them to the devs?

Why would there be anything illegal about the PR dev team collecting money. A group of individuals can set out to collect donations if they wish to. Just because they also happened to make a mod for BF2 doesn't mean that EA owns their souls.

im all for this idea. i think maybe this should go in suggestions section?

i would def pitch in if they had a donation option.

maybe we can set up a donation to see how much money we could gather to intice DICE {or is it EA} with releasing the source code for bf2 so we can get past all these damn hardcoded issues lolllllllll yeah right they would probly just take the money and run
