Yeah, we would really need much more people on a server than 64 for this.

Even if you could make a map that big, it would take years of work to make a good map of that size.

if it was mostly terrain it wouldn't take me that long, but it has afew "built up" urban areas it looks like which would take a long time.

Of course. I could make a 64 km x 64 km map in a week, but adding urban elements takes time and attention to detail.

how about the channel islands, my geography is not what it used to be, iirc they are only a few miles long.

found on, its called alderney, its about 5km long, or you may want to look at guernsy, it would make for a nice-ish british home defense map since their politics is related.

map of both

Fighting on a Island like the pic would be cool,
It is 3 miles (5 km) long and 1.5 miles (2.5 km) wide. The area is 3 sq.m (8 sq.km),

A campaign going for the same island divided in 4 or 5 maps would be interesting.

I like the idea of having a large area split into multiple maps. Also why is everyone still talking about licencing an engine, if they would have read my post they could see that freeware engines can do a better job than most of the built engines. Just check out Ogre3d and it's screen shots.

Here in Canada we have maps available starting at 1:10,000 scale, aerial photos in a slightly larger scale and some satelite imaging for some areas as well. Hmm if only there was a way to utililize this mapping.... BINGO! Add the Canadian army (say this weekend the Devs do that) then make about a dozen maps on Canadian soil (to mimick the impending MEC/PLA invasion). All the maps (created the following weekend) would be to scale. Man I'm good ;-)

So we know getting it to an actual size is out the window. Now, we should focus on mapping that. That looks like GREAT FUN!

Yah never know, as China is making inroads into the South American Market these days, so anything is possible.

Forget these open desert maps, one huge map based in Mexico city would be interesting. And since China is currently in bed with Mexico it wouldn't be a stretch story wise.
