[Question] Viewing custom skins in BF2?

Been playing around with some bf2 skins just as a way to learn photoshop a little bit and perhaps later get into skinning. I'm just curious as to how I can view the skin I've edited in BF2? The texture/skin I was playing around with was CHAT_ERYX_C.DDS and I overwrote the old one that was there ( In the mods/bf2 etc. ,after backing up ) but it doesn't seem to have taken effect when I fire up a singleplayer game of BF2?
