What is the PR team's stance on 'base rape'?
The base rape question is to the BF community what the God question is to the philosophers: There is no simple answer and everybody has their own opinion. However, I still want to ask for a definitive answer from the DEV's: Is base rape allowed? What goes and what does not? Is it disallowed to attack main bases but ok to 'rape' cappable bases that you cannot directly attack the the moment? Is it ok for some classes to 'rape' but not for others? Can you enter uncappable bases with vehicles. All questions to ponder - or not! In my opinion there is no middle ground. Either everything goes or nothing does. Ambiguos rules are a big no-no in online games. Still, that is not up to me to decide, but the developers. While waiting for hopefully an answer from the almighty DEV's, let us look at the pros and cons:
PRO BASE RAPE
-No arbitrary rules that cannot be enforced anyway. Well, it can be enforced to a degree by an admin or with an anti-camping script, but let us face it: It is going to be awkward and inconsistent
-Allows for sabotage missions which add a stealth element to the game that can be fun. Those commander assets are destructable for a reason. Sabotage missions, which in turn are the only reason to have the spec ops class in its current condition in the game. Unless, of course, you are a 'I-need-no-body-armour-or-grenades-or-accurate-rifle-or-teamwork-enhancing-items-as-long-as-I-get-my-1337-CQB-carbine' noob.
CONTRA BASE RAPE
-Taking out important empty main base vehicles such as jets, helicopters and armour can severely disrupt balance. You could say that players should defend their base and not leave vehicles unused, but still. Who wants to sit around defending the main base while everybody else is having fun on the front lines - and what if the perpetrator is a well-armoured tank several hundred meters away one-shotting everything? What about bombing runs or attack helo strafing?
-Somewhat runs counter to the whole AAS thing. Some players think of main bases as symbols of a far away supply points in case of which it makes no sense the enemy can enter them.

I dislike the baserape, before the base is the last CP avaiable.
I was playing as MEC on Kufrah one round, and one single Abrams kept raping us, destroying everything we had, while the USMC team capped the CPs, which we were previously holding, and there was no way to reinforce them, since theAbrams shot everything, that left the base...
Then again, from the other point of view...for example: carpet bomb the Palace on Al Basrah at the start of the round. You cut off insurgent reinforcements and by constanly getting rid of the spawn cars, insurgents have less possible spawns and no armor.
So its good for one team, bad for another...I dont want to flame any mappers, but the problem is in the main base design. If every main base was designed as the 0.6 Basrah airport, IMO base rape sabotages would have less consequnces etc...

The open beta will really help in terms of weedign out base raping properties of all the maps involved. I could name several maps off the top of my head that had changes made to them to prevent it. The last thing any of our mappers want is for their own work to be "exploitable", I'm sure Rhino will second me on that.

I voted for PRO, since i think it is perfectly normal to send soldiers to Sabotage Missions
A heavy AT+Rifleman near the enemy base can stop armored vehicles from getting into the battle field and gives your team a huge advantage
Regarding spawncamp the only ones that get spawncamped are the ones that dont play on squads or/and dont use rally point
The only reason you should respaw at your mainbase is to get vehicles
If someone is at you main base, make a squad and take him out
And if it is the last flag, it is your team fault to lose all the map

personally if its the last flag (or next one to attack) rape away...
but any time other than that im am mostly against it...in RL the base would be heavily defended and not even be at all accesible to enemy forces without a serious concerted attack.. (aka the last flag)
what we really need is some automated ence systems for the bases that instantly track and shoot units...that would solve the problem in a jiffy...
hehe...anyway...uncappables should never be camped/raped cause that just dumb...the reason they are uncappable is to make the level playable...which it wont be if you rape it...
so dont do it....

How do you know if someone is at the mainbase when no one is there to see him?'[R-PUB wrote:Hfett']I voted for PRO, since i think it is perfectly normal to send soldiers to Sabotage Missions

The people that sit on the hill with a tank and fire into the main base at the start of the game are ....well .....think of a dirty word.
People who covertly travel the whole map, sneak into a main and blow up assets are saboteurs who take great risks to achieve their goals.
These are two entirely different things and should not be confused.

Just for you: http://youtube.com/watch?v=XdhhXf8wXzcBlackhawk 5 wrote:I'm in the matter of more directed to against base raping... However its spawn camping that ticks me off. I havent played 0.6 Al Basra but in 0.5 Al basra it getas annoying when you see a jeep go in and suddenly bomb an A-10 or blackhawk.

Maybe in clan matches almost everything goes because there will be good comms, and the game is prtty much in your own hands. (i guess would expect) But in public servers there thats not always the case.
I play for fun and i expect the opposing team also, so if don t baserape. I just wait for them to regroup and have a nother go so at least they have somewhat of a chance even if they do "suck". I ve been on both sides and it is mighty tempting.

When its the last or second to last flag, I say open up with everything you've got.
Prior to that firing into the main base is a no-no, but theres nothing wrong with ambushing people between the main and their destination. For example, setting up in a tank or with a H-AT kit to cover the road from the main to the city of EJOD.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.
