[Help!] Editophobia

Post by superdj »

After a long deliberation in my brain, I decided I would get off my virtual lazy ***, and decide to learn to use the editor, because I wanted to make a skin like those from BHD (the Delta Force guys). So I head over to the editor forums to get all the tools and program doodads, and I realize even finding and installing the right things is frustrating! I understand I gotta have a little patience, but wow! I got a few questions:

-Maya
http://bfeditor.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=710
"-Copy all the icons from the "Icon" folder to "C :P rogram FilesAliasMaya6.0.1icons". (Not the folder itself, just the files inside it!)
"
Where is AliasMaya........?

-3dsmax
What is this?

-Gmax
Where can I find this?

I have a feeling I'm gonna need more to get started, but I wanted to make sure I had the basics down.
Sorry for sound so whiny, but I have an idea of what I'm doing before I mess around in the editor.

ANY HELP WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU.

All here....

Ensure that you familiarize yourself with the extensive tutorials in the forums before you post any questions. Just about any question that you might have has probably already been answered there.

Also do want to skin the soldiers or build new ones. If its to skin them then you really don't need the editor for that. It's much easier to probably learn how to skin them first, as modelling is a whole different matter.

To change the skins, you don't need modeling programs, you just need photoshop and Nvidias DXT tools:

Ok, thanks for the link Geze, I'm still a lil confused but I think I'm getting there.
Another question:

"3DS Max Tools (June 10/06 version)
Description: Extract the contents of this .zip file to your 3dsmax directory while keeping the sub-folders inside the .zip as they are.
Download: http://rex3d.net/bf2/files/3dsmax/bf2_3 ... un2006.zip

"

I cant find/might not have a 3dsmax directory. Is there something I can d/l?
