[Help!] Undergrowth Problem

Post by TY2D2 »

I am having a problem loading the undergrowth for PR/BF2 I followed Rhino's tutorial on setting up the mod. Putting all the files where they go and all of that. And the editor is loading up everything in the mod manager. But when I go to choose the mesh for undergrowth all I see is like 4 versions of garbage, seaweed, rocks and 1 version of a small bush.

I can't find the grass and other things of PR and BF2. Anyone know what could be wrong or how I could manually get the undergrowth into the editor for my map?

Thanks for any help :)

I did search on there, thats the first thing I did. There's nothing about it really, all problems with coloring or not displaying. The farthest I've gotten was taking the undergrowth files from a stock map... but then the textures don't show up right and if I try to edit the textures the plants dissapear all together. I have made undergrowth before for other maps and never had this problem where it wouldn't load. I am just having a weird problem with PR, I guess because of all the switcharoo-ing? But I don't think thats where I went wrong because I followed the tutorial perfectly and everything else in the mod works fine in the editor.

if your a new mapper, wanting to learn, i would definently recommend you using the original bf2 mod, as its much easier to configure and you will learn the extrme basis which is the most important... like the Terrain editor...

I have learnt how to add/modify the textures, using different layers..

for big maps i would sudjest using bf2 tpaint or terragen " i try to learn both " terragen is much more advanced thought

also learnt how to add overgrowth/undergrowth

and water ofcourse

then the Level Editor, where you will be adding Spawn points, control points and object spawn points etc.. here you will also be able to add buildings, and roads if you like.. i have tried using the road templates but they are so freaking ugly

Dude, I know how to make the map. I know how to use Tpaint. I know how to use everything... Did you even read the thread?

Anyone know, how to set undergrowth to render at larger distances? Cant seem to figure it out by looking at the Tweak bar...

I think that might be in the actual undergrowths settings that were set when they were made.

Found this on another site a while back. It might be the answer to your question.
The corn fields are undergrowth, if you wish to modify the map for your singleplayer experience, open the client.zip for the map, and then open the "undergrowth.cfg" with notepad. The first line of text refers to undergrowth view distance, modify that to suit your performance. Note that modifying this file will mean you won't be able to play online. For overgrowth, go into the server.zip and open the overgrowth folder, open the overgrowth.con with notepade and modify the value of the line "Overgrowth.closeDistPercentage" it should be the third one down. The value (0-1) will modify the when the higher poly lod models are swapped to lower poly counterparts - a greater value, the greater the lod distance. Modifying this will similarly mean you won't be able to play the level online.

No, that doesn't really help.

I am having a problem getting the editor to load up the undergrowth. :-(

I guess I should of added the quote from Outlawz as that's who that reply was directed too.

Is there a vegitation folder listed in the Objects? It should be there with all the applicable types.

Ah...

There is a vegitation folder inthe objects folder, but it doesn't contain the undergrowth I guess because I did unzip it and the undergrowth does not appear like the overgrowth does. Its weird I can get overgrowth fine, but not undergrowth :/

It should have at least PR, Middle East, Asia etc in it. That's what mine contains.

Yea but "Undergrowth" is not in there, Vegitation contains the overgrowth, NOT the undergrowth .

It's got me stumped then. It must be something within the editor itself then, which I don't have a clue how to correct other than reinstalling. I'll just leave it and maybe someone more knowledgeable will chime in with the answer.
