I think its perfect for models. just look at the stuff people are making for ms flight sim with gmax, incredible detail/animations..

It is missing the more complex features of 3DSMAX, especially the rendering options. It is still great for modelling for the beginner (takes a while to go from beginner to intermediate with 3DSMAX anyhow).
It is good for beginners but not for making full models for games.

Yeah I'm a max fan but hell what ever software package you wanna use go for it. Now that Autodesk owns both Max and Maya they have said they will be keeping both and making both programs work together (one file format that will open in both packages) XSI is cool, but never really liked it. Plus if your thinking about getting into gaming max is the way to go. Max is been making a HUGE push in the gaming biz. I think havoc has been the big reason. But again it all comes down to what your like.
