1... 2... Pick-up kits

Post by Cheppi »

No this isn't another where is M95 thread :p

Actually its on a quite different topic, that off being able to pick up enemy weapons when they die (When you walk over them and Press G) as too me it seems very unrealistic because of,

A: Friendly fire problems, If you're playing as British on Al Basrah and suddenly someone near you starts firing off an Ak47, your immediate thoughts are that and insurgent is going to pop a few in your head. So you turn around ready to fire, distracting yourself from whatever you were previously doing, allowing any real insurgents in that house across the road to get the jump on you, and possible Tking that teammate.

B: Not good for morale, I doubt real life conventional armies would allow it, as it doesn't send out a good message, that its soldiers have worse weapons than its enemy.

Insurgents should still have the ability however. And if possible enemy soldiers could still pick up the field dressings of fallen enemies. Picking up kits of teammates would be the same as now.

I hope this isn't the dreaded H word, but as the devs managed to do it with enemy vehicles, i live in hope :D

Negative, when I was back there in Iraq. We traveled a lot with US troops, they preferred AK 47s over their M16s. Well, a few. If you communicate well there will be no friendly fire.

okay, imagine this. You are in Iraq, insurgents are attacking your position. You are out of ammo, with no supplies near your position. Also all of your friends are low on ammo so they can't give you any.
do you
a) run like hell
b) cry for mom
c) pick up the perfectly fine ak-47 and the 5 mags that are there 1 meter from your feet?

seems like a simple question.

It is realistic for people to be able to pick up a weapon from the ground. You might not do it often, but if you need to do it then what's there to stop you?

The only real issue is the sound.
I prefer it if my squad doesn't pick up weapons because then we can use the sound to ID the enemy.
True, that only works in the start of the game because others will pick up enemy weapons and vice versa.
But who wants an AK over anything else in the game anyway ?
And as the windshield melts
My tears evaporate
Leaving only charcoal to defend.
Finally I understand the feelings of the few.

A. It is the player's problem and responsibility to correctly IFF contacts in the field. It is the same for everyone.

B. Your doubt is uninformed. In vietnam, solders usually dropped their M16s for AK-47s. In Iraq, I remember reading about a Medal of Honor recipient who was out of ammunition during an attack, and he charged forward and killed several insurgents with their own weapons. The one I read about was still alive when I read the article. There was another that was found dead along with several dead insurgents (also a Medal of Honor recipient) for the same kinds of actions.

U.S. Soldiers actually train with AK weapons in case they need to swap enemy weapons in the battlefield.

Well, honestly, for some reason I like the AK and I tend to pick it up whenever I can >_>;

Plus, I can usually throw them off via sound when flanking them.

What is the scope the sniper guy has on his rifle ?

Well on Mestia I actually prefur the militant kit for storming the Malitia's bases over anything with an L85. IMO the AK actually has the easiest sights to use in CQB of any of PR's assault rifles.

Mind you, On mestia you'll usually find me running around with an RPG or PKM no matter what side I'm on.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Bingo. The SUSAT is nice at range but when you need to get up close and personal the AK not only has stopping power but the iron sights are ideal. I usually stick with my own teams kits if it's a professional army but if Im insurgent of militia I tend to pick up more often. I really heavily on the sounds of the rifles to determine enemy positions so I don't like to contribute to the confusion.
