I've seen some funny stuff on youtube made from FPSCreator. You can make a game, package it and sell it. There are some successes with it, but it's an old engine and missing so many effects it isn't worth the hassle really.

[R-MOD]Mongolian Dude: AH man, sarcasm is so hard to get across the web, even if we are both british
[R-DEV]Jaymz: That has to be...the most epic response to a welcome thread I have ever seen. [R-CON]Mr.D ladies and gentlemen!

£500,000 for the UT3 engine right?'[R-DEV wrote:Fullforce']It'd be nice and all, but how do you suggest we start? We need an engine to work on, and to have full control over that we need the source code - which is a LOT of money.
+ if you spend that, tax man asks how your doing to model, that's £1500 for 3DMax, top sec computers for development, + the time it takes will be a full time jobbie if we want it in less than 10 years (no disrespect guys, just being honest at how big a project like that would be on your level of finish and refinement), so pay.
Anyway, your looking at in excess of a million. Not cheap - so pray I win several 10s of millions so I can hire these guys so they can do it!

Imagine PR on the Crytek 2 engine shown here (click on the face to even more amazing pics...I didn't know graphics had come this far...man Dx10 has really pushed the envelope on human modeling).

Btw some of those images are well over a year old and outdated

IF you guys could get hold of the money to Create a project from Scratch, you would earn your money back ten-fold within a year.
i Think you really should promote yourselves to EA, and other Gaming companies and show them just what Skills you have as a team - i reckon you would get snapped up in no time.
I know for certain i'd support you and buy a copy of Project reality (retail release) as i havent gone back to the original BF2 since i've played Pr.
Good Luck.

The question is, would the PR team - no matter how talented - be able to compete with a commercial game studio?
As you may know, there is a Battlefield style game coming out called Frontlines. By the looks of it it unfortunately seems to continue BF's tradition for 'arcadish' gameplay, but if it is more moddable than the BF2 engine it might make a good platform to build PR2 on. I do not think PR should attempt to create a brand new game engine if it can be avoided at all.

Jeez. All this made me imagine a game like Project Reality but with World War II Online's magnitude and size and good graphics.
Awesome.
BTW, I don't think that idea is good at all. Too much money required and there are pretty good engines out there (as Crysis' one). Although I'd definetly gonna buy a game made by those guys.

I say, tell EA that you just want to have an open-source code of the BF2 engine with much better graphics and tell them that you will work for free. If they fund the development and marketing costs, you will work for free (this is your hobby).=UKHC=Neoteknix wrote:^^

Ask EA to invest in you. They give you the BF engine, open source, the can have all yor profits (this is a hobby-based thing, and mos corporations will do about anything for a potentially big sum of money. And, if nothing else, ask a start-up game company.
Try http://www.novalogic.com (although they're not exactly start-up, they had BF1942 cornered according to the reviewers till BF2 came out).

Also, this would allow you to work-around the hard-codings. If you could outshine EA, they would think of it as an insult and maybe listen to their customers. But, a lot of people are disgruntled with EA over their PR system. So, if you market to the BF2'er, I think a lot of people will want to give it a try and evade EA. Just my thoughts.solodude23 wrote:Yeah, honestly I rarely play any game except PR now. It would be my dream for PR to become its own game. I know it wont happen but it would be fantastic. I have ALWAYS wanted a realistic tactical FPS thats somewhat a MMORPG. PR has filled that almost perfectly, but they are so limited due to engine limitations.
Not only do engine limitations make it hard to implement features altogether, but it also makes it so the DEVs have to use sometimes complicated work-arounds. With use to their own engine where they could change anything it would be amazing.
Another factor, you would have to worry about player base WAY less. PR is a mod for an extremely arcadey game, therefore most of the players will be looking for more of a vBF2 experience and not a realistic one. In addition, it is kind of annoying having vBF2 players come in at times with their play style being used to vBF2. However - if they were to develop their own game they could advertise it as a large-scale tactical, realistic FPS. Therefore all the realism fans would be attracted to it, while the arcade players - not so much.

except that there is no way they would make a ready game in a year. This mod has been under developement for over a year, and the official 0.6 isn't even released yet. Not to mention that they had quite a lot of stuff ready for them in the beginning.=UKHC=Neoteknix wrote: IF you guys could get hold of the money to Create a project from Scratch, you would earn your money back ten-fold within a year.
It takes time to make games. Even more time to make great games.
