M203

Post by system »

Here is a question I've wanted to ask for a while. Why does the M203 have a 'smoke trail'? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it CS Gas powered?

Not only that, but it looks pretty stupid. So I'm wondering if you're going to change this in a future release. Thanks in advance. ;)

Bob Marley will undoubtely have a more complete answer but I know it is not CS gas powered, although I will admit I'm not even sure what that means.

It's a big bullet and it's hot,so it smokes.

I don't think that either the 203 or the AG36 (or whatever the Brits call it) leave a visible trail after firing, considering they use the same 40mm grenades... The grenade isn't self-propelled, and from videos of M203 being fired that I've seen, you don't know where the hell it went until it explodes.

I'm not sure about the GP30/25, considering that the propellant is enclosed within the grenade, but from my understanding, burns up inside the barrel.

EDIT: Check this video out, starting at about 3:05.

In reality, as far as I know, no they wouldnt leave a "trail" as such.

However, in PR there are not (and almost certainly never will be) funtioning grenade sights. As such, using the grenadier kit is usually a case of guessing for the first round and then adjusting fire, which the "trail" is useful for as it allows you to see the trajectory of your rounds.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

40mm grenades are just giant bullets. I've got a used practice one.

The trail also reveals your position to the enemy, and isn't very visible at longer distances. You can always use the explosion itself to judge where your round hit.

Again, I have never fired one so I'm just going by what I see but it's a big explosive bullet and I would guess it might leave some trail under certain conditions but it's not a rocket so it shouldn't look like a smoke trail from an RPG or Stinger.

You can always use the explosion itself to judge where your round hit.
Which is what real soldiers do, IIRC.

Why haven't you guys made grenade sights for PR yet? Or have you, and I've just missed it....

The problem with your usual leaf sight for the 203 is that you are supposed to place the front sight of the M16 on the desired range on the leaf sight. You can't have adjustable sights in BF2, as far as I know, so that makes realistic sights impossible.

I can get it very close to where I want to hit it first shot.

I don't think that it should just be left in the game just because so you can see where it was fired from.

I really hope they remove it.

Shot the HK69 A1 and the AG36 IRL. No smoke trails.
And i also think that the explosion itself is enough information to re-aim even with the sights we have at the moment.

The ones from Virtual Battlespace 2 are better, we can just steal those right? :P

Has anyone actually used that thing it looks ridiculous. Dunno why they've gone to all that effort and all it can support is 100 players though, suppose it needs one hell of a fast PC to run it in the first place.

I think it easy as hell to aim the grenades as is now...I used to noob-tube them all over .5. After a while you get pretty used to them.

You think so? I mean, granted, I can't use them for shite. But the recruit-mode crosshair version is no different from the PR sights, and the iron sights don't seem bad to me.

I'm sure that in Battlefield 2 they developers just put the smoke trail in the game so that players could see and understand the lob the grenade has.
