When is the real .6 comming out?
I know how much you devs like these kinds of questions but I have to ask since I haven't had the time to really check up on these forums so much. Somehow my manager interpreted me wanting a part time job to working me five days a week. Between that, my grandma breaking her arm and staying with us, friends, and other shite I haven't had too much of a chance to know what the hell was going on with .6.
Anyways, can someone fill me in or at least give me a rough estimate?

Thanks luizinhuu for the find

[R-DEV]Rhino:"I in fact got kicked from a server for tking."
Hitperson:"well done, treasure it forever."
[R-DEV]Adriaan:"Damned classy Roma, if I may say so."
[R-DEV]Chuc:"Pro man, pro." (yes, it was about me)
[R-MOD]BloodBane611:"Romagnolo, you definitely deserve a LOL award for that."

You can bet it would probably be sometime in early July as a pretty good bet unless like Rhino said something came up but depends how major the prob is.lonelyjew wrote:I know how much you devs like these kinds of questions but I have to ask since I haven't had the time to really check up on these forums so much. Well unfortunately something potentially ugly, unanticipated and outside of our codebase has come up that will probably delay the release past July 4th.
To when I don't know, but instead of wrapping up the release and relaxing a bit this weekend, we're into another build and test cycle with some changes we need to make to try and deal with the issue.
After the v0.5 debacle with modded servers, we took the position that future releases of Project Reality would not support server side modding for publicly available servers.
There is a clan that insists they will run a v0.6 Project Reality server and that they will mod it whatever way they see fit and are not intent upon password protecting it. They are showing a total lack of respect for our work and for our requests as producers of that work (the request simply being that SSMs are only acceptable on private servers).
So instead of wrapping up the release, we're diverting energy into locking down the content (which by nature is difficult to do with BF2). Additionally we will be rethinking how we distribute the v0.6 release because we not only don't want modded servers, but from the perspective of protecting our work, there's a principal to be enforced that both legally and morally people are NOT free to re-mod a mod without authorisation.
Where would we be if folks were saying "we're going to take PR and do whatever we like with it" (which is effectively what they are saying). If it means we delay this release for weeks to sort it out, so be it, I am not open to that kind of exposure, nor am I open to people thinking they have that right.
We've tried reasonable discussion with these folks, but they somehow think they have both legal and moral rights to alter PR in any way they see fit. So we have a bunch of unanticipated work to do to deal with these folks' intentions. When that is dealt with we'll revist release timelines.

1st thought was: Give us the name of the clan and let the community deal with them, but that`s not how it should be done.
I can understand this and feel sorry for the lack of recognition you have to deal with. Keep up your good work and never argue with those idiots, they just drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

I dont see how putting in extra work to lockdown the code will do any good unfortunatly. Wherever there is locked code there is always someone willing to take the time to unlock it.
A better stance would probably let the whole community know and rather than cause additional grief of ppl on server causeing arguments just boycott them?
