Supply Create Drop

Post by Lt_Bren »

The supply create drop is far from realistic. They are dropped at low altitude and fall at a greater speed than is ingame atm. Currently it takes ages for the thing to hit the ground and its fall slower than a peice of paper.

It compensates for the time it takes for the supply plane to taxi, take off, fly to the target, and drop the crate. if anything it should be longer.

Fair point. However, why not just put a timer on it if that is possible, then have it drop fast and at low altitude instead of letting it get shot out of the sky long before it gets anywhere near the ground.

Something like:
"Requesting Supply Drop"
"Supplies dropping at your position"
...
"Well, where are they?"
<box falls with speed of 600 kmph at ground on top of the SL>
"Oh, here they are...ouch."

The drop time is a little much. It's like a big blinking light saying "hey guys, SL right here" that lasts 5 minutes

Put a delay on the request but have the drop time be more realistic.

Mechanized infantry would probably store additional ammo and equipment in (or on) their APCs. We kinda have that in game right now, with the players being able to pull out an AT4 from the back of an APC... However, unfortunately, APCs do not provide infinite ammo.

I fully agree with you.
I have no problem with waiting for that damn crate until it hits the ground, but lately half of crates were destroyed by enemy fire (tanks, apcs with mighty zoom can shot it from afar). It is falling very slow so they had no problems with doing it.

If it would be possible to let it fall faster, but add some time delay (to have the same waiting time) right after commander has accepted supply drop request, then it could solve this problem.

What I find questionable about the supply crates is how insanely fast you can drop one after another. The vehicle drop, by comparison, takes ages.

The supply crate and vehicle being shot out of the sky probably translates as "the aircraft was blown to pieces before it could drop the crate/vehicle"
This signature is here due to lack of imagination.

Except an aircraft would be in and out of the area far faster than someone with a rifle could "blow it to pieces," and the crate would have already landed before someone could destroy it with a rifle.

If the issue is making sure that it gives away your position (since surely the enemy would notice the plane flying low and dropping supplies) maybe there can be some specially colored smoke where the supplies are called down?

I had an APC on Jabal. 5 supply crates blown to pieces later and the attacking aquad still didn't have anything to request H-AT from.
