Whats a playable ping in PR?

Post by BeerHunter »

Since PR doesn't rely on the twitch factor as so many other games do and there are classes that can be played where combat isn't the primary role (thinking SL , commander , medic etc.) making them less ping intensive , what would be a reasonable ping?

When I play PR I'm usually in to 70 -80 range but there are other servers I wouldn't mind trying as I hear they are quit team work intensive but the pings are about 120 or so (some at 180) to me.

I'm a mature (meaning old as well  ) player so am quit willing to play one of the supporting classes rather than run off tanking or flying.

So , what would be a reasonable ping?

I can fly in pings up to 150+ i wouldnt say over 200 though. I say fly because that would be when the lag affects you the most IMO. I am central U.S. so i can play west coast, east coast, and europe np.

If you want better ping up your ISP speed.

I rarely play under 80, usually over 100. I would stay away from 200 as well. I can play just fine at 150. Im lucky that I can play on some good US servers and some European servers without to much problems.

Usually no problems up to 150.
150-200: No Probs on the ground but extremely difficult to fly.

That unfortunately is something I can't do.

But 150 - 180 opens up some European servers to me...

I play at usually 100-200. Almost always between 90 and 150 and its great! Although I don´t get thet many kills, but thats just down to my bad skills at the moment!

Well, we have only one brasilian (it's with S, not Z) server of PR and it isnt always with players in, so many times I play in others servers around the world. I can play with no problems about lag until 250 of ping. More than it I start notice many problems, the more intensive is when you shoot first but you die because of the lag.

(yes, it was about me)

For BF2, I'd say anything up to 300 is acceptable. Sounds crazy, yes, but I play on australian servers very well without any problems. And dbzao who gets from 180-220 ping plays very well (better than me).

I must say I do much, much better on European servers than American. That is roughly a 100 ms ping difference, from 130 to 30. Ping still does matter in PR. However, it is still fully playable with pings well above a hundred.

Since I'm in Australia like Beer, I must point out that the state of "broadband" (and I use the term loosely) in Australia is atrocious due to government regulation and corporate monopoly.

Beerhunter, you sound very familiar. You mentioned in another thread coming up through DoD and RO... You wouldn't happen to be associated with that fine collection of elder gentlemen called ****, would you?

30 ping for me on 24/7 Muttrah server, can definately pwn the USMC Spec Op instaproners in a blink of an eye :D

About 50 on iGi's and up to 90 on all European servers

TG is also bareable with ping about 150-170, and so was Devfile, altough there was always a bunch of noobs lagging the **** out of it (and the map :roll :)

Havent touched the AUS BigD server yet, but its waay over 200 for me :/

Nope. I'm Canadian living in northern Alberta but am associated with a fine group of elderly gentlemen gamers called CoFR. ;-)
