Keeping this part for thread cohesion, this is what I originally wrote here. Looking at it again, I can see how it came off as overly bigoted and I really regret putting it like that. Please, accept my apology. I hope we can move on now and not derail the thread any further.Strategist wrote:This will be my guide and mine alone. The guide is not to be edited by anybody else. Not as much as a comma is to be added without my expressed permission or request. Yes, that goes against the nature of the wiki and I am powerless to prevent editing. However, should this unauthorized editing occur I will take down my guides and host them elsewhere. I will, however, be very open to suggestions and criticism and have sections detailing other people's contradicting [reasonable] views. A joint effort guide is also entirely possible. I am not interested in being credited - I just want there to be a guide to hopefully raise the level of play - but I will not have my name put on anything I do not agree with. Please, contact me about the guide, either here (I will keep watching this thread) or by PM, but do not edit anything yourself.
That said, the general gist of what I wrote still stands. I still request that you do not edit my posts to go against their original meaning. Editing wikis take time so respect the original author's hard work! Like I wrote, I am leaving all doors open and welcome criticism. There are plenty of options available if there is something you disagree with: PM's, this thread, or the 'discussion' part of the wiki post. Again, like I said, let us try to reach a consensus or have notes of contradicting opinions if that is not possible - but please do not edit my writings yourself. Likewise, if you add something I disagree with I will of course contact you.
I want to use this forum post as a kick-off point and medium for feedback and will also be replying with notifications of guide updates here. Brainstorm for anything regarding a guide! Do you perhaps have some material I can use (with or without crediting/linking)? Are there any special subjects you want me to cover? Do you have some advice on writing such a guide? Anything goes!
The first articles I intend to write will be about the following topics:
-Organized play versus public play. I believe there is a need to raise awareness about the much better gameplay on closed servers. Too many very active players are missing out.
-Common basic errors (basically another 'how not be to be noob' thread - I might merge it with that one if author allows it. Same with other topics already covered). I have a horribly long list just off the top of my head about stupid things even supposedly experienced players do. Some people need to get the basics down before even thinking about moving on to actual strategy topics.
More ideas for guides:
-Infantry combat tactics (tactical movement, urban combat techniques, leapfrogging, bounding overwatch, suppression fire and so on)
-The role of the commander, squad leader and squad member
-Radio usage
-Specific map, weapon and vehicle guides
-Situational awareness and improvisation
-General warfare philosophies (Sun Tzu - yes, much of this actually applies to BF2!)
-Asymmetrical warfare
-Leading fire, accounting for ping, bullet drop and bullet speed
Stay tuned!
