my mic cost me $10 back in 1992 and it still works like a champ. you dont need an expensive mic at all. the one in the newegg picture looks very similar to the one i am using.

Worked for meYou need to reduce your directx down to basic. Here is how:
Start> Run> "dxdiag"
Go to the sound tab. Under DirectX features, move it down to basic acceleration.
