Helicopter Tips???

Post by Svarta_Framtid »

Well, i'm realitivly new to Project Reality. Love the mod though. But I keep having trouble piloting the choppers in the game. I don't know how many times I killed innocent teammates while trying to get a littlebird off the carrier. I just cant seem to get them in the air correctly, and if I do (the AH-1 on Al Basra) I just crash and burn in the first few minutes. Any tips?

Is there a map on single player that has choppers in them?

You have to remember that helicopters have a startup time. When you take off berfore they are ready, they will most likely tip forward or sideways.

Let it warm up for 30 seconds...

Did you know you have to do this?

Start a LAN Server, type this "sv.numplayersneededtostart 1"
in the console and have some fun.

You can also go to this directory: \Battlefield 2\mods\pr\python\game,
backup this file "realityconfig.py" and change "realityconfig_test.py" to
"realityconfig.py". Then make a LAN server.

By doing this, you will have no spawntime, no waiting time between requesting kits etc...

There's also a map called the Project Reality proving grounds in .6 beta you can use. They have every chopper and plane that is in the game or soon will there and pilotable.

or until you can keep the chopper so steady you can go AFK for ... as long as you want, without crashing.

Just practise offline. Make sure you can take off, land, land under fire and take off under fire. Also try to assess good areas for landing near a firefight (never in the middle, for obvious reasons:roll :)

If you have a joystick, one thing you can do is slowly increase the throttle. That doesn't really add that much time on top of the 30 second wait, and if you chopper starts moving rapidly in one direction, at least you have more time to react. I tend to do this often, in order to prevent the choppers from suddenly lurching forward as soon as they get off the ground and slamming into an inconveniently placed building.

Remember, try to stay in the middle of the sky. At the bottom is ground and at the top is space. Both are notably harder to fly in.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Stick low too. Concentrate on what's in front of you, constantly scan for enemies and a possible escape route from your planned route, and make sure you have a basic idea of where you're going.
