Snipers in squads getting love!
With the new view distances snipers and marksmen have been getting some love lately. I know I don't mind having one tag along now, and infact I am starting to demand that I have a sniper or marksman in my squad if I'm on a map like Kashan Desert. When you come into contact with infantry they can be devastating because it's such an upper hand.

yes .6 has made snipers more useful to squads
this is good for teamwork but bad for realism, as they IRL do not fill the marksman role in squads; they should be operating in teams of two or in a sf unit doing recon blah blah blah-its all been discussed on these forums before
however i see no simple solution to this, and frankly, its not that big of an issue
IMO the g3+scope is the best all-around rifle in .6 and 1-2 skilled players can spot an enemy sniper/marksman with binocs/magical-spotting-spam, and then pin him down/force him to retreat/kill him (usually a headshot)
i have never requested a sniper kit in since ive started playing .607. rifleman/chinese grenadier ftw!

When I grab it, it usually says 2 of 5... huh...
Either way, snipers can be useful in squads, on certain maps, and in certain situations. Kashan is a great example, where a squad can set up on the hills overlooking the bunkers, set a rally, and actually have something to do as they wait for others to cap village. Same on Mestia, where a dug-in squad defending a tower can really use a sniper for long-range defense.
Unfortunately, I still see a lot of people using the marksman kit improperly, just setting up and sniping, instead of moving with their squad and serving as the primary means of long-range attack for that squad.

depends on the situation, but generally I agree.... I like to move in close for the kill.Lampshade111 wrote:Am I the only person who tries to advance to a closer range when I encounter the enemy at long range? I always do this unless I am a sniper. Infantry battles are won up close!

I think its just from conditioning that I still see the sniper kit as some kind of hinderence in my squad. Its always been the do nothing's kit, along with SF, which both i try to alienate from the squad. I still dont mind a gd ol' Marksman though(AS LONG as i have allocated it to him, Verbley)

The US Rifleman & Commander both have a 4x zoom on their iron sights currently, to compensate for having no modeled ACOG.dunehunter wrote:TBH, with every side besides the US having optics now, I don't really use the sniper kit anymore. Using single-shot, I can usually put down some decent fire, even at long ranges, though I haven't tried the sniper on Kashan yet (too much armour begging for my attention)

If i get into it i can get alot of kills, that oil fields map and mestia come to mind but dont think much of me im drunkdaranz wrote:Personally, whenever I get the sniper kit, I can't help myself, but act like a designated marksman. That usually makes me look incredibly stupid, and gets me killed. That's why I usually don't pick up sniper kits, but sometimes I just feel like I should, after knifing some sniperwhore.

Noobs? Half of you snipers are too busy looking off into the desert to notice the knife about to enter your back, the other half looks backwards in time to catch a burst from an assault rifle.AppleJuice4u2 wrote:I also give a sigh of relieve when one of you noobs do that makes it so much easier for a sniper rifle for me

On Kashan desert it doesnt really pay off to be a sniper that stays still. if you stay behind your squad about 20 meters it's a great help. that's what I do, that way you are far enough back where you usually wont be noticed (if you move from cover to cover) and if they start getting hit you have the best chance to take out the shooter and not be seen while they lay down fire.
though to be honest I much rather have a marksman then a sniper 90% of the time!

Will people please stop bashing the sniper kit? The sniper kit in itself doesn't make you an uber1337-st4tp4dd|ng-scriptkiddie-whore. The people themselves do that. And it's the same with the marksman kit. Both kits can be very, very useful when used properly. The Marksman for staying with a squad and providing accurate fire to distances beyond what regular infantry can achieve. The sniper is not intended for that role. His (or her, let's be politically correct here) role is to provide information to the commander/squads, spot enemies, take out important targets such as SLs and commanders and generally harassing the enemy. If a sniper gets one or two kills, then dies, we're either talking about a very bad shooter or one that recces more than he shoots, which can be a good thing. I've successfully pinned down quite a few Brits in the VCP on .6 Basrah using a sniper kit as an insurgent. Didn't get many kills, but no Brits would leave the safety of the VCP. That's what the sniper's for. It's an asset to the team if used properly. Just too bad that people don't realize that.
More guns and bullets make bad guys go away faster,
which in turn makes everyone in the area safer.
