That's not the problem. You need to have to agree to a certain license to run PR, with PR standards. You can run it without it, mod it without having a password on it, but you'll be in violation of the license, which can put you and your server in a lot of trouble, you really don't want to get yourself into.

So you want to sue the guys who have the server? Dont understand me wrong i like the idea to make the servers free of serverside moding, but every complait cost money and pr is just a fan project and you treatet it like it is a game not just a mod.
And what say EA to this license i rebember the FH mod had some problems with EA because sold the FH DVD for the guys who hadn´t a fast inet.

...

I see this more as a prevention, because most server owners are not going to take the risk of a lawsuit.

We're not going to s00 anybody :p

We just want to be in a position that if people are operating the server without a license we can do something about it. And legal action is probably the dumbest thing we could do.

So what is "something"?
The world is full of idiots and they will not stop to run a server just because you say it. Or would they?

It depends what the DEVs can legally do doesn't it ;) Of course, if you sign the contract without reading it (a very stupid thing to do) and break the contract, they could say.... hmmm, send you a virus? Nah. I don't know what, but they'll have something.

Eddie, it'll be a simple kill switch for the server application which can be used on every 0.6 server, i guess.

But will it be a solution which will work and wont be hacked.
I mean there are even "no cd check" servers which were actually protected by EA.
So will PR waste time and resources if those hacking smacktards will also be able to find a way around this pr protection feature?

Im afraid that this feature will appeal many hackers to find a "solution". I dont know how this feature will work and be implemented but ... if there's a will (for these hackers), there will be a way (for them).
On the other hand it will restrict normal server admins who dont know how to set a server correctly.... with punkbuster, punkbusted, bf2cc, abr and a brand new protection feature which forces them to register on the board.

Will there be a simple way to handle this registration?
Will there be a tutorial (maybe a PDF coming with the server installer) where a new pr admin can find all his answers....even in german and other languages?

There's a very simple way.

Post a list of licensed servers here. I bet you most of the players in this community won't play on an "unlicensed server".
