Desert-compatible Ghile Suit
Ok,this is something minor, since it only concerns the sniper class.
At the time the Ghile suit of the sniper is made up in a grass-like fashion. This is nice in green maps witch grass and bushes and stuff, but a big chunk of the battlefields are designed in desert or savanna area.
So,I saw the a Ghile Suit for snow a few days ago, basically a wide uniform with a hood.

So i thougt, this could also be possible for desert maps, only in a yellowish fashion.
I don't know how the sniper model is built up at the moment, but with luck only the grass-like stuff would have to be taken away and the suit underneath with the hood would remain and has only to be skinned in a desert camouflage.
Although this is low priority, I think sniper need this because with a scoped G3 e.g. it is possible to shoot targets at ranges which are not so far away from those a sniper shoots at.
So to make up for the lack of body armor and genades and whatnot, the sniper needs a better camouflage.

Exactly. By the time you're close enough to see the ghillie suit, it's already pretty obvious that you have a sniper in front of you, and, in fact, you probably noticed him before the ghillie suit started showing.El_Vikingo wrote:That's not really the problem.
Its the distance the camo renders that is a problem.

Ok,let me sum this up:
Apparantly, there is two things which have an influence on the looks of a player:
First, the basic model, which is usually seen from afar or when dead, and secondly, some kind of an overlay depending on the kit. The draw distance of the first can be changed(as seen in 0.6), the distance of the latter apparently not (...yet,hopefully).
So,assuming the draw distance for the "overlay" can't be changed, the only way to archieve this would result in making a new model with a hood, but this is not possible, since you can't actually spawn as sniper, and it would be far too much work for a class so scarce anyways...
So, as it looks like at the time, there is no way to change that.
Well, I can't blame anyone, besides the usual suspects of course....

Think we gotta accept for now guys that the problems with the render distance are unavoidable, it's a case of deal with it.
That said, a slightly less... shrubery... based ghilli suit *would* be nice for the desert maps purely from an asthetic point of view.
However there's far more to work on than asthetic issues with a severely limited kit, for now, I suspect!

Heh, that's what I always think when I see a sniper.knewman wrote:I always thought the snipers in bf2 looked like chewbaccas. So in vbf2 there were like 20 chewbaccas running around the main at the start of the level and I couldn't help but laugh to myself.

Also, the big picture with sniper who..er.. snipers looks more like a shooting range. You don't need a ghillie suit for a shooting range.
