Lack of text with radio messages

Post by Zybon »

Why was it decided to remove the text that accompanies messages like "Bail out," "Need medic," or "Need ammo"?

This almost forces people to turn on English VO only if they want to understand these important team messages.

Not only does this cause confusion when determining what team you're on (Was it my team or the enemy that threw that grenade?) and ruin the immersion, it also makes all the work the devs put into the new voices moot.

Of course theres the argument that there isn't text in reality, but in reality you are also able to understand the language of whatever team you're on.

I've also wondered why most text is gone, but there's still some that appears.

The "need ammo" and "need medic" no text is not a problem. If you are a medic and someone requests a medic, check your mini map and it will show an icon for a critically wounded soldier. Same with if you have an ammo bag and someone requests ammo, an icon will show up if someone needs ammo.

Except when you're delivering ammo with the ammo truck or are willing to offer your field dressing to someone else when there's no medics around.

it is a catch 22 i think...the primary reason for removing the text is the huge text spam that happens in which the important msgs can easily get lost...

but at the same time we are actually losing cues for teamwork, agreed...but the idea is always compromise right?

as far as the devs are concerned this is a healthy compromise..

But why get rid of all text messages except for "I need a ride", etc.? There's a handful that managed to stay in game.

Yeah we have a real desire to get rid of the spam as much as possible.

The minimap can assist with some of the aids missing as a result of the text spam being reduced. VOIP is by far the most effective.

If there are some critical ones that are missing, let us know and we'll evaluate them.

Honestly. what it boils down to I think is the need for you to squad up, even with strangers and communicate with them either through type or (preferably) voip

The text that comes with "Bail Out!" is only broadcast to people in the same vehicle as you, so wouldn't there not be much of an issue with spam?

I guess a lot of people are pretty ignorant when it comes to the minimap, so it probably wouldn't matter if there was text for ammo/medic request if they can't even look for the icons.

Anyway, VOIP isn't always an option. Especially in the case of Bail Out you frequently have a driver that isn't in the same squad as the passengers. Sometimes you are simply working side-by-side with another squad. It also causes more of a distraction during combat in general.

Thanks is there so you dont think people are ******** for not thanking for a revive outside of your squad (for non English languages).

Also many of the commands from Squad Members are no longer broadcast to the entire team, they are shouted within proximity and the SL needs to broadcast them to the entire team over the radio.
