Kuwait/Iraqi Border map

A map idea i recently thought of is a conflict between US armored forces vs. a MEC tank division set on the Kuwati-Iraq border i took the liberty of preparing a few visuals. :D

this is a google earth shot showing the actual border, and a highway section.
the highway stretch was used by Iraqi forces during the gulf war known as
the "road of death"

please note this takes place in the early stages of the current iraqi conflict

took me about an hour and a half to make. it's not really to scale either (most of it consists of insurgency models)

Note: the huge PR billboard is not necessary, it was just for shits n' giggles ;)
Layout
as you can see it is just a fence in the middle of the desert, with standard fortifications; tank traps, fence, and barbed wire (not shown).
USMC starts on the south side, MEC on the north.
there are some hills, trees and rocks.
maybe a small highway can cut through the fence at one point (but is still closed off by a static gate)
the lighting would be fairly dim (a little brighter than in the screenshots) in the early morning.
Gameplay
as soon as the round starts the MEC will have to hop in T-90s, APCs, etc. than find a nice spot and dig in.

the USMC will spawn about 3/4 of a kilometer south of the border, the A-10 should launch and secure the actual border from enemy tanks and then engineers will secure a section of the fencing and take out the tank traps, fence, and barbed wire. once the US forces have secured the border they will have to push on and capture a few defensive lines of trenches, outposts and lastly the MEC base.

this is a very effective and realistic use of PR's AAS gamemode as it was an actual scenario. when you first go into a conflict you must pass the fortified border, than slowly advance into enemy territory.

this gives each side many options.
the US can choose to:
  • Have a blitzkreig style advance and rush with armor supported by the A-10 with ground troops following behind
  • assign each squad to a defensive layer and support them with armor
  • have a slow wall of tanks, infantry and support vehicles flow through the gap
the MEC can defend the border by
  • try to pick off the engineers and keep the US bleeding until they lose
  • fill the gap with barbed wire, sandbags and other defensive commander assets
  • send armor through the border into kuwait to attack the US head on
  • stay in ambush positions along the border
this should be a fairly easy map for the devs to make (in comparison to other requests) as it is a large flat desert divided in half by existing models.

please do not remark about the paradox of making a map for a map suggestion :smile:

I like the idea. I think you should make the british try to get to the other side of the boarder to get to Al basrah.

Id be all in favour for making it British but since the Challenger 2 isnt ready yet (i think) i would suck, keep is USA :p

this would have to be an american map since AFAIK america did the tank invasion across the border

The Saudi-Iraq border has a large Berm and minefield, that could work too.

I like the idea of the border, maybe with some CP along. A battle in the dawn light sould be great.

Nice screenies.

An Iraq/Iran border confrontation would be nice: mountainous border to the NE with plains to the SW.

Don't make the desert too flat, some dunes and small holes (craters would be nice, too), so the infantry and vehicles dont get mowed down WW1 style...

Well, I remember requiem specifically stating that Project Reality would not include depictions of the events actually going on in the world (U.S. forces in Iraq, conflict in Sri Lanka, etc)

I love this idea, but it would be great with a few howitzers (spelled wrong)
and with a very long tank spawn time (up around 40 min) but a lot of tanks and APCs, but i want it in the pitch black. with the tanks having headlights.
