Hard Coding...

Post by bunny »

I'm not with modding, coding, mapping, etc. so forgive me if this sounds stupid to the geniuses out there. I know that there are limitations to the modifications made to BF2 because we can't mess with the hard coding. I just wanted to know why that is. my best guess would be something to do with the copyright, am i correct?

i believe you are correct. im pretty sure it has to do with the code being copyrighted and locked so that, if altered, the game will mess up or something? in any case, even if thats not exactly how it goes, it is unable to be altered. im no modder either, but from what i can gather, thats the deal ^.

Hard coding is locking down a certain code, which can only be accessed, if you have the source code to edit it. Otherwise, you cant do anything about it, and it stays intact, whatever you do...

You can't edit compiled code (i.e. the .exe itself) without the source files. That's what's meant when someone says something is hard coded - it's in the BF2 exe itself instead than the mod files and scripts, so we're unable to edit it.
