Civilians in .6 final
Just to start, I absolutely love the idea of civilians, and they worked pretty well in the beta, where people noticed that when you shoot them, they get points, and you lose points. However, in the final version, a ton of people just don't seem to care!
I can understand people killing civilians by accident once in a while, it happens to me too (I just had a run that Fallujah map, about half the insurgent team was insurgent while we were trying to push through the gate. The commander called in artillery a couple of times, and people kept throwing grenades)
By the time we finally got through, the enemy had gained a couple of hundred points. Is there no way to get these people to understand that killing civilians is bad?
Right now, on a map with insurgents, my own team is often my worst enemy. It also takes the fun out of playing a civilian. In the past, you had to be careful if you wanted to trick them into shooting you, like popping your head out once in a while. Now you just have to stand in full view of a group of enemies for a moment, and one of them is just bound to shoot you.

I think there's a surge of new people now with the new version. I just got off a server and had a few people say over VOIP that they've never played this mod before.
In my opinion we should handle it like we did the .5 release; be patient and help the newer people along. Even though this is all common knowledge to us, they're brand new to the whole thing.
It's much harder to play b/c people don't know the rules or the teamwork tactics. But we'll get back to the quality of the .5 community quickly if we help educate one another. Lotta new people and we all wanna jump in like we used to. I don't think we'll be at that level again for a few months.

Well, in the past, if you had some people who were new to the game, np, if you were lucky they wouldn't do too much damage. But now, if only 5 guys keep killing civs, and half the other team are civs...that'll cost you the match.
I dunno, would it be possible for servers to put it in their server message, or have it pop up in large text from time to time?

I was on that map with the original poster. It was a nightmare. We could NOT push through that gate without hitting civilians. It's not that the newbies where shooting them intentionally, it's that the more experienced players where using civi class and standing behind the gate, so when we blew it, it would kill 5 or 10 of them at the same time. Hell, I threw a grenade over to where I didn't see any civi's, it bounced and caused me to kill 3 in one go.

Hello.
I think that I was also on the server (if it was Desert Storm map on :iGi: server the author is talking about).
Well, I'm going to be quite opposive to the autor's positive statement.
It was quite good in the beginning, had a nice squad cooperation. Of course we had some issues with ppl shooting civilians, but more or less likely, we've managed to explain them not to shoot them (ah god, I wonder how many ppl actualy read the guide before playing, 1/10 ?).
But after we've pushed them to Canyon checkpoint the hell started.
3/4 of the enemy team were civies and they started to behave completly idiotically.
Running into fireline, jumping on the baricades and all this kind of stuff to just to "get shot and get some tickets for da team".
We couldn't even get thru the gate, 'cos as soon as you got thru, you got shot by a guy with AK, hiding between all those civies. Trying to rush in with APC didn't worked eighter 'cos of mines all arround the place (and 'cos I shot a civie, that jumped into my fireline I couldn't even request a crewman kit).
Also, the civies were repairing that stupid gate all the time and when I blew it up with C4 I've instantly killed 2 civilians, that were standing directly BEHIND that gate (of couse with the malicious intend to get killed).
After the ticket ratio was about 200:600 most of my team just started to shoot everything that moved and didn't looked like a US.
At 100:650 I crashed to desktop and when I came back the round ended at 0:700.
Well, after all I think that civilians supporting insurgents are nice idea, but the "c'mon, shoot me, fool !" thing has to be somehow fixed.
PS: Excuse all typos, English ain't my native language.

I actually like having to see a lot of new people playing the mod. If someone asks a question, don't be an *** and say "read the manual/guide/forums" (I've given this answer to questions while in some servers, mind you). Just answer their question(s) directly. We want them to respect the older vets of PR and we will earn their respect them in return.

Yeah all the new people just have to get used to it. It took awhile in .5 and it will take a while now.
Come to think of it it seems every time i feel like the whole community gets how to play and everything is going fine a new version comes out and then we have to go through the same thing again. I say the DEVs should stop being so god damn l337 with their mod skills and coming out with new awesome **** like everyday and let us enjoy the game!!

Maybe I'm just in a bad mood from real life and from reading posts where people keep asking the same questions over and over but...f*ck you.RightWingZionist wrote:So why do you lose points for killing "civilians" who are used as human shields or run around in a war zone?
Oh I get it..this game is about realism so since we can't get court marshaled like the Marines in Iraq for doing their job right..we lose points.. oh ok.
I don't like that post at all. Stop being a smart ***, stop being ignorant, and stop being an *******.
You know damn well that there can be civilians in a war zone and your implied attitude that soldiers should be able to shoot any civilian in a war zone is sickening.
40% warning for being a jackass and for having a sig picture that is too big. Good day.

How about if you shoot more than 1 civilian, you instantly leave the battlefield. Then you sit in front of a 60 second court martial. After you are found guilty, for about 30 seconds, the firing squad lines you up against the wall, rereads the verdict and executes you. Then you wait 30 seconds to respawn staring up at a sign that says don't shoot civilians dumbass. Repeat this for every further civilian shot with an additional 30 second respawn time added each time. That should get the point across.

We've got a lot of new people in the game and on the board now. I played some rounds earlier where the SL had zero patience and was booting people left and right for doing fairly innocent newb things. Of course they'd get mad and come back and TK and everyone would start complaining about banning, etc.
It's just a game, it's meant to be enjoyed. People get all bent outta shape so fast when a new release comes out. I think it's mostly due to the learning curve and having to re-adapt but...lets all try to tone it down a bit.
