I don't think EA is in any way interested in making a "realistic" version of BF2 and I sense no dedication from their side to help out people who want to mod their game. So I think the best is not to hope for too much to come out of all this...
Thats what I mean, they are filling their 'realism gap' in the market, with this mod. They don't do any work, but people see the mod, then they buy BF2 to play PR.

Maybe. I dunno :D

im inclined to agree with bigmoose.

Either that or some of BF2's creators actually enjoy PR more than BF2. :p

AFAIK, anyway.
It is in the EULA. That's why we can't alter the "hardcoded" game code. What I want to know is if anyone has asked for permission to touch that code, who knows?

WAIT !
Explain hardcoded again then please because I thought he was saying have the DEVs ever asked if they could change the hardcoded things in the game.

Actually I did.

Mainly because I read the manual/guide, practiced in singleplayer for a bit before heading into MP. It can take a while to get used to and the maps are unfamiliar...but there is no excuse for a person to wander onto a server and the first thing they say is "HOW DO I GET CREWMAN KIT????????????????????"

That type of person deserves no helping along or an answer. Newness is not an excuse for idiocy, most questions blurted out by some of the newer players are ridiculous because they can be answered in the changelogs and the guide, all of which are easily available. I'm all for new people joining and I'll happily answer their questions if they are valid ones, but if someone comes onto a server without knowing ANYTHING about the changes in PR then it is just totally rude.

You can't change "hardcoded" stuff because it means stuff in the exe (or dlls for a game) that the source code for which has not been released, and therefore you can't alter the code or compile your own version of it. So it's not like the devs are just being nice and refraining from changing that code out of honor to the EULA - it's that they literally can't change it cuz they don't have access.

If you want to know if the source code will be released for bf2 you just have to look at if the source code for 1942 was released. And it wasn't was it. So forget about it lol. Only cool companies like Id Software do stuff like that. For example Urban Terror mod for Quake 3 was a mod that ran on q3 for years, and now the Q3 source code has been released by Id (for a long time now) so now Urban Terror is essentially a free stand-alone game. PR could be like that too if EA released the source for BF2, but they never will.

haha, they got so many flaws in that article that it's unbeliveable, the commander need to build artillery and you need a kit to operate artillery etc.

Really odd, is that article on a BF 2142 News page everything?

My guess is they no longer support BF2, so why post news there. To them it's done and forgotten. They only mentioned PR on 2142 to help boost their own sales of an older game?
