B1 bomber carpet bombing
i had this idea, and i think it may be possible, but what if the commander, instead of artillery, could order a carpet bombing strike? it would be great on a larger map like kashan. here how i think it could work:
you wouldnt have to model a new bomber, as i know thats not really feasible with the BF2 engine, but instead you wont see the plane at all {as it will be flying way too high} this will save the hassle and time of modeling. however you will hear the rumble of its engines {similar to the sound of the plane that drops the ammo crates} and for bombs you could just use the existing bomb models.
and like how an ammo crate just appears at a very high altitude in the map then falls to the ground, you could do the same thing with the bombs, just make them appear way up high, and they will fall to the ground simulating a bombing run. what would make it look really cool, but im not sure if its possible, is if you could put some forward inertia into the bombs to simulate being dropped from a moving plane.
at first when i thought about this i was thinking of a b52 carpet bombing run, then i thought maybe thats not so good because b52s drop ALOT of bombs and if that many bombs was dropped in PR then it would probably lag the hell out of the server. so i thought ok then maybe a B1 bomber because it holds alot less bombs { i think like maybe 6 5ooLbers?}but still does alot of damage. and for MEC you could use a russian equivalent like TU-160 and china i dont even know not that it matters as you wont see it anyway. anyway, anyone think this would work?

That sounds good but I would make it a one time thing or at least every 30-45 min so it is not like arty and I would add a 1-2 min delay from the request to the actual strike.
It would be great for rushing the bunkers.

It was accidentaly removed from the release version. Expect its return in the probable 0.61 patch.sickem wrote:I am a noob at Project Reality 0.6 not 0.5 but i was Wondering If someone can help me out . The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.
Many thanks to [R-DEV]Adriaan for the sig!

the apache is at least on albasrah extract.
just look into the gameobject.con of each map at the server.zip, there u can find everything which will spawn.
and btw:
I dont believe that a carpetbomber is so much different to a arty which is laming around right now in PR.
Take out all these laming features where just one person can kill the rest on the server...
i hope noone will wish a a-bomb for PR
Instead i could imagine a hombase arty which coul be used in a commander defined radius.
like a asset right now someone has to built it and has to use it ... so that would perform a big learncurve like those mortars coming soon.
i mean, if someone wants to kill many in PR he should work for it and not just click'n'forget

The Idea of having your Own B-1 Airstrike is Really Un-Real i mean like in a Sense you want a Aircraft to Fly from the USA and bomb a Target within 5 Mins? Anyways if you want a Airstrike to Replace Artillery i Suggest a Smaller Rocket Barrage or Bombs Run by say for MEC a Su-34 or for the British the Harrier. And Call it a CAS Strike, a Pint Point attack will not work as Say what if you Miss by a inch the Target and the Bomb Misses?

Use A10/Su25, you can come back as many times as you want and strike the same target.
Use the 3D marker as "laser" targetting. Although only works for people in your squad.
The commander can set the targets by setting the marker exactly ontop of the one the marker set by the guys who need the support.

ok i wasnt asking for a for straight up demolishing of an entire map with 100 bombs like a B52 strike, if you read my first post you would see i suggested a small amount of bombs something like 6 which is also why i recommended a B1 bomber strike as they dont hold as many bombs as a B52. it would be great to order a strike on one of the bunker complexes, pretty much destroying all enemies vehicles/infantry in that area then a squad or 2 can move in and capture the area while its cleared out.
also a B1 isnt typically flown all the way from the US to the theater of war, thats what they have forward operating bases for. right now in iraq they have B1s stationed in-country to provide rapid air support so yes a B1 strike can quite literally happen within 5 minutes if a B1 is already in the air and close by. your either thinking of the B2 stealth bomber, which is actually flown from the US to strike in other countries, or you just dont know what your talking about.
and yet again if you read my first post you would see i suggested to make a B1 strike very limited, like maybe once every 30-40 minutes etc. this would make it impossible to rape with it. i appreciate any comments and constructive critisism but please read my thread fully before you do

Yeah, A10s rock for CAS.
Commander tells me that the people defending south bunker are having a problem, a bunch of hostiles in the hangar, they can't hold them back. Roger. I line up my approach, go in slowly...
Ten seconds later, the commander asks me whether I just dropped a bomb -inside- the hangar. Roger.

PLEASE GOD READ MY THREAD NOT JUST THE TITLE
i explicitly said there would be no need to make any new models, that carpet bombing would work similar to how artillery works in BF2 and that it would be assumed the bomber would be too high an altitude to see but if they could make a rumbling jet sound before the bombs were dropped that would be awesome.
