UAV

Post by Injun_Joe35 »

Before I get to my idea about the UAV, I just wanted to inform you guys that I did use the Search option. Unfortunately, it didn't really show me what I was looking for, so here it goes...

First off, I'll give you my idea of how I think it should be deployed. I was thinking that this could be a commander asset, and that it would have to be set up close to the Main base. This would cost the team X amout of tickets to deploy. Once the commander has placed it, friendly Engineers would have to get it set up by repairing it.

Once ready, Squad Leaders would be able to request UAV on a certain location. The commander could then either accept/decline this request. If accepted, the UAV would circle the location overhead. Only the commander would be able to see what's going on. I was thinking that it could be like an overhead view of the area it was requested at. This could be shown as a TV screen similar to that of the attack chopper's gunner's view. It could be in color or in black and white, I don't really care. Now it wouldn't show every enemy in the given area, only what the commander could see. The commander would be responsible for relaying this information back to the SL, and the SL would then inform his squad. Example: Alpha Squad requests a UAV over West Tower on AOM. Commander accepts, UAV is deployed, and the commander now as an overhead view of the battlefield. He sees a few guys standing guard with a technical stationed nearby. He would not be able to tell if there were enemies hiding in the bunkers though. He now reports this back to Alpha Squad, and they now get prepared for the coming battle.

This overhead view could last for X amount of seconds, up to the DEVs. The UAV would be able to be shot down, maybe by the more stronger caliber weaponry? Once it's shot down, the screen immediatly goes fuzzy or blacks outs. The UAV is now over, and has to be recharged for X amount of time.

If this is hardcoded, and not even possible, please disregard what I've just said.

Anyways, that is just my suggestion, and I would like to hear from the PR community. If possible I would also like some feedback from the DEVs, PUBs, and CONs. Any construtive critisism is welcome, Thank you.

Probably possible, but would ruin the gameplay balance severly...(and UK/US are 1337 enough, IMO)

That's an interesting addition to Xander's linked thread.

How about the UAV station being like an UAV control center. The commander could "enter" that station like a vehicle where he would see the a monitor view like when the Apache/Cobra gunner fires a missile. Maybe it could be coded like a missile that flies around in circle above a certain region. User could rotate the camera and zoom, but not pilot the UAV. So, basically, the commander would have to:
- Deploy the control center and make engineers prepare it.
- Receive an UAV request from a squad leader
- Accept the UAV request to deploy it
- "Enter" the control center to view the UAV TV feed.

I suggest the UAV be available a fixed amount of time - maybe 5 minutes? I suggest a delay between the time the UAV is launched and it reaches it's destination. How about 2 to 10 minutes? Maybe this could vary depending on the map maybe?

On some selected maps, UAV could perhaps be equiped with guided missiles (ref. Predator variant with two weapon platform pylons).

Maybe a maximum number of UAV flight could be set. A recharge time of 30 minutes sounds about right.

UAV techonology should be available to all modern army factions (China, US Marines, US Army, British Forces, Canadian Forces, Others planned?), but not to Insurgents (duh) and Militia.

UAV technology should not be available on every map.

I agree with geogob about which factions should get them. Any other comments?
