And you know that it's mute the the commander voice and not only the voices from the squadleaders?

I heard exactly what you are talking about here in this forums. Never tried it yet. I will experiment a bit on our practice server and if I find a solution I'll get back with it.

I thought... I you select/mark the squad you want to talk to, and then press B instead of V, you communicated only to them. Not 100% on this though.

This just doesn't work with me and I can't work out how to do it. I can talk to all squads at the same time, but that just distracts a lot of SLs for no good reason so I usualy keep quiet unless repositioning the whole team to take a flag back.
This should work. Clicking the squad should surround it with a white box. Then pressing the key you said, normal in-squad VOIP key, the squad leader of the selected squad should be able to hear you.
HOWEVER the yellow sound wave icon DOES NTO LIGHT UP. Whereas when you press the key that enables you to talk to all squads, IT DOES.

Therefore you are given no visual indicatoin as to whether the squad selected can hear you, thus causing many problems and meaing most players do not realize they can communicate in this way.

Persoanly i would reset my VOIP settings in the BF2 VoIP Setup (found in main BF2 file area) and then i would recomend re-assinging your keys again. Just means you can rule out those areas although they should general screw up your other VOIP communications.

ALSO i have found squad leaders often dont respond when i speak to the directly becuase i think they are used to such direct communication. So to test it, just find a squad that responds alot to you over ALL HEAR voip channel and then ask them to respond if they can hear you when you talk using the different direct channel - but tell them using the all hear one.

That's was I was thinking too. Would be great if someone could clarify this.

I think muting squad leaders mutes their voices to you, not vice versa.

I frequently use the method where you select squads and use normal talk key works for me, and I always use it extensively. I'm surprised that many people don't know this - I believe it's even in the little paper manual you get with BF2.

And yes, because only 1% of commanders use squad specific comms, many people don't realize you're talking to them. That's why I always make sure to call out their number, even if I'm talking only to them. This also confuses people when I tell them I'm going to talk to another squad, and they don't hear it, thinking I'm not doing what I should be doing.

The little mute icons on the commander screen are pointless most of the time, because they only mute INCOMING comms, not outgoing. This means that all squads can hear you directing the engi squad around as you erect a mighty fortress of sandbags, but you can't hear all the other SLs as they desperately call for air cover in their area. Hell, a lot of the time when the commander can't hear me, I end up muting commander as well, so I don't have to hear him. You can tell when he has you muted by the Capslock map (as a normal SL or grunt) - if the the speaker icon next to his name looks like a pressed button, he can't hear you.

It's not mentioned in my the manual.
Only the talk to all squadleaders function.

I tried it often but because there is no VOIP Icon or squad response I thought it's don't work.

Btw:
I tested it right now with every squad on my team and finally I got a response from a single squad. Good to know that it's work.

Agreed. Not only that, but while running around in-game the squad you cliked on allows you to see the icon the SL is useing.
BigGayAl has noted this works great for calling in air strikes and arty strikes.
SL puts a destruction icon down, reports this to the CO.
CO gives the coordiantes to the Top Gun by placing a demolisions icon down.

Sadly, you must go back into the CO screen to talk one on one with the single SL again. You communicate to all when pressing the Commander Voip button you have set up while running around.

Like daranz typed, IT IS IMPORTANT to give your Squad number when communicating. Really saves a lot of time and confusion.

___

P.S. A problem COs have is understanding who their SLs are and what the Squads are named (very important imo.) What you do is press the enter button on your key pad and it brings up the kit selection screen. Here you can establish who the SL is and their name so you can use your assets better.

BTW, can we please have a CO/XO/SL forum to discuss such things so we can establish a good Officers Corp for the community? If we had one place for all to go and research this stuff and discuss tactics, the community would be better off, no?

The forum could be called "War College".

Also. Can someone help me out with some .6 CO training?

I never played the beta.

The order of operations for CO:

1. spawn at CP.
2. Get a Officer kit.
3. Spawn a Support Truck.
4. Spawn a Commander Station (UAV trailer).
---XO officer makes the Commander Station fully operation (with wrench, stops until 100% operational)

I am a little dicey here on.

5. Order in a bunker. Not doing so will not allow you to build a firebase later.
-----XO officer makes the bunker operational (with shovel), stops until 100% operational.

O.k., from here the CO and XO and get closer to the front lines and can build firebases/AA/sandbags/razor wire/more bunkers.

Can anyone give me feedback on this.

Thanks champs.

Rick_the_new_guy - perhaps your question is better asked in a new thread with a subject matching the nature of your question. You might get a better response from more people.

Just a thought :)

good point. There was a assest thread earlier. I used my method on Z wetlands on TG not too long ago and things worked well. Plus, the PR wiki helped me out.
