I spend most of my BF-time in the gunner position of attack helicopters. And there is a few things that really bugs me.
First, as a gunner I'd like an indication in the HUD where I'm looking compared to the direction of the helicopter. When you have the cockpit on that is normally not a problem. But when you turn it off, which is most of the time, it's very easy to loose track of where the pilot is looking. Since your view isn't moving when the chopper is (which is a good thing) you haven't really got any good indication of it. Sure you can look at the map in the upper corner, but then you have to take your eyes of the target area, and when zoomed out it may be hard to really see the symbols in the map. So I'd like to have the same cue as the pilot has... shouldn't be too hard?
Secondly, many pilots are having a hard time understanding how to line upp the helicopter to get the target right in the missile sight for the gunner. A simple square in the pilot's HUD would give him the necessary information... Shouldn't be too hard either.

I don't know if I'm starting to get old and do not react as fast as I used to, but I find it takes more than a split second to move my eyes to the map, identify my own helicopter's symbol, compensate for what directions it is facing compared to the map and my view symbol, then move my eyes back to where I had them before and either find a new target in a new position or find my old target area.
And to make that even harder, I'd like to have my map zoomed out which makes the helicopter icon small and often cluttered by other symbols and therefor hard to read.
A similar symbol (if not the same) as the pilot has would not be in the way for you if you don't use it but it would help me a lot. And it should be one of the simplest alterations since it should only be to copy the code from the pilot's HUD.

That would be even worse. Hitting M would sure make me miss the target, and zooming in on the small map is not an option, it takes to much time and if I keep it zoomed in I won't see spotted targets at far distance. Most of the times when I really need to know what direction the helicopter is facing is when I've got very little time to find out. For instance when the pilot is yelling SAM 12 o'clock low.... if I have to start zooming or bring up the large map we'll be dead. Or in less dangerous situations we will have overflown the target.
I don't understand your objections to this feature? If you don't feel the need for it, that is one thing. But to not acknowledge that there is people that would appreciate it, I don't understand why. I've talked to several people that are crying out for this easy made alteration to the HUD.

I agree with you 100% on this one phlerp. When you're in the gunner position, logic states that you switch to the nose cam, so you can see more of the target area - but sometimes it's useful to know what direction you're facing within a split second, so that you are able to "lead" your target when shooting at him while moving at high speeds...
At the moment - you either have to work it out using the mini-map (and it's harder than it sounds within the time you have to do so, and no - I'm not old...
) - or you have to go to the cockpit view, and back again, by which time your chance will have gone.
In my opinion there should be a new layout to the Gunner's HUD, with the direction of the chopper integrated. Also, it would be nice to have the Pilot know where his Gunner can see - as suggested earlier - by adding a square to his own HUD.

If anyone wants a quick guide to the symbology of the real Cobra HUD, here is a good link:

At 3:45 that had to scare the **** out of the people crossing the bridge. Does the circle show the accuracy of the weapon?
