You have all forgotten also that firing from the left shoulder bears the far greater danger of the cocking handle breaking one's jaw.
I just went on a firing range and got the safety check for the l98 cadet GP rifle and a modified l85 that only fires semi and has ring sites for target shooting.
So... yeah.. I feel in the know.

The handguard in that photo is the same as the one on the L85A2 in game. Are you thinking of the LSW in game which is the L86A1, not the more recent A2?. The A1 gas a different handguard to the A2.
About left handed fireing, you can do it if you fancy a face full of cocking handle and ejected brass but I wouldn't advise it. You have to learn to fire right handed.

No, it's not. Never seen that hand guard form in my life, and heard nothing about it. Other than the obvious IR/Torch attachment, the ventilation slits are larger than the current one on the A2s. The IR/Torch attachment is designed to fit on the normal hand guard.Fergie wrote:The handguard in that photo is the same as the one on the L85A2 in game. The L85A2 and L86A2 both use the same hand guard. The weapon in the picture is the L85A2. The old A1 varients have exactly the same green plastic hand guard than the current A2 varients, and wasn't part of H&K's upgrade program at all.
Haven't seen, used or viewed any information on this handguard variation, but it looks like it's designed to allow more airflow around the gas componants of the rifle, probably for areas of ops like Iraq/Afghanistan/ desert exercises.
Normal SA80 handguard
Modified/New handguard

See the difference? Although tbh we have a lot more higher priorities to be done. This would involved editing the L85 familiy models and not really something we would see as being important to gameplay.

Cadet GP rifle FTW!
yer it definately looks like a new handguard, maybe to cope with the conditions overthere... sand, dirt, and probably heat

The l98 is the biggest piece of shit ive ever laid my hands on, My instuctor said one of its characteristics was that it was RELIABLE, after i pulled back the cocking handle, the pins came flying out and the gun litterally fell apart, so i had to reassemble it
, its also shit how they dont let ya **** it with ya left had, the guy said the " proper" version to lock the rear parts was to swing your left arm underneath the handguard, then push down the locking switch, then catching 4kg with ur lil pinky finger, god it was annoying

Me thinks someones telling porkie pies...... The manufacturing facility where the L85/L86 was made was closed down YEARS ago. Aint no way they built L85A2/L86A2 from newbullock wrote:i asked my armourer and he told me the reason because some of the rifle's in the armoury had the new handles and some had the old what he said was the one's with the old handguard are the converted A1's but the ones with the new handguard where build as A2's there for go new stock put on them.

bullock, we are talking about the hand guard, not the cocking handle. The only external differences between the A1 and A2 are indeed the 'peardrop' cocking handle (instead of A1's round one), the H&K stamp on the top of the butt (on the A2), the change in mags (A2 uses different blank firing mags to live, and both are now made of heavier, stronger metal) and a new Blank Firing Attachment (when fitted). If you want to get anal the VISABLE part of the gas plug is meant to be black on an A2 also, although eager recruits think it's carbon and scotchbrite the f**k out of them until they're silver again
).
The conversion process completed more than 18 months ago, although a number of A1s are kept in Recruit Training Centres so they don't polish the hell out of the black gas parts of the A2s.

your right they no longer build the A2's in that plant and for that matter dont build any more new A2's but the MOD did order brand new A2's which where never build as A1's the armourerSgt.North wrote:Me thinks someones telling porkie pies...... showed me the diffence's such as on the trigger guard on the converted A1's there is 2 tac welds on the newer ones there isnt also the converted ones have the serial number printed on them twice and the newer one only has it the once.
and i was talking about the handguard not the cocking handle.
but i still think the SA80 would have looked far cooler looking like this
