My mouthpiece broke after taking a gulp from a cup of water.. .. so now, I'm using the (r)ight speaker off headphones, courtesy of JetBlue Airlines. Works like a charm.

I've got a mic but I don't use VOIP because my PC is located in the livingroom of the condo I'm sharing, along with the TV, etc, and I'd feel like a right twat barking out enemy locations and the like while everyone is sat watching TV.

Until I'm hooked up with wireless that's where my PC stays

Every once in awhile I'll join a game where all squads are full, bar the one advertised as VOIP or VOIP Only, etc. In those cases I'll usually try to join the VOIP squad because I'd be much more valuable to my team if I joined an existing squad (especially one with the improved communication via VOIP) than creating my own 1-man affair.

I've got to admit, having folks taunt me and call me a "boy" does get real old, real fast. Thank higher powers that I have a very short temper, and have other squadmembers go "Shhhs! You might piss her off!".

If you really are 14 and turn out to be a kick *** squadmember or squadleader, I don't pay that much attention to your age. I would rather have you on my squad, on VOIP than not at all.

Or, don't have VOIP but can actually follow orders. Even flipping better.

Worst part is, the older gamers here (and the young ones in my mind is 30 and up) are the ones who is more including than the people barely out of their teens. Whats up with that?

Well, maturity tends to come with age, although there are always exceptions to the rule (going both ways). I played in an OFP 'group' (they hated the word 'clan') for about a year or so and I think I was the youngest, or one of the youngest members, at 20. The age range seemed to be 25-50, with most in their 30's and a majority of them had military experience. I used VOIP a lot back then and the chatter between the members was absolutely hilarious

. They were the real deal, not kids still in highschool (no offence) and it made everything so much more engaging. I think the only problem was the ranking system, which mirrored that of real life. We'd spend more time organizing than playing, it seemed!

I know this may sound rather newb-ish, but please bear with me, I come directly from vBF2 (the horror!): Is it possible to hear what your team-mates are saying without having a microphone? I.E With a set of headphones? I just bought a pair of bose headphones, and if microphones are as important as this thread suggests then I will have to spring (by spring I mean spring the pair my friend owns and never uses because she never uses the computer...) my own pair.

Certainly it is possible, but the fun increases exponential, if you can talk to your teammates.

Its not about the cost - personally, i dont want to talk when i am playing games.I will happily listern to Voip commands and respond with pageup/pagedown and quite happy to use the keyboard to type messages.

The average gaming PC costs several hundred pounds - people dont talk because they dont want to, it is nothing to do with cost.

Voip is great if you have a good computer, i play on a laptop and anytime i use Voip the game lags for me. I love Voip and would be greatfull if anybody else plays on a laptop and has any sugestions to combat the lag.

Using VOIP is easy. The difficulties lies in HEARING what is being said.
I haven't used VOIP in over a year now because of all the poorly set up mics out there... Sure, if your hearing is perfect or at least good, no sweat. But when you're like me and is affected by tinnitus as well as defective hearing things over VOIP gets a little "blurry".

I remember one guy who had a brilliant set up for VOIP. I could hear him clear as a bell every time no proble what so ever... Yeah, Artnez, Good soundquality back then!
